Under the general direction of the Assistant Fire Chief/Fire Chief, the Fire/EMS Specialist develops, implements, and enforces fire prevention and life safety programs designed to protect the community, property, and public welfare; performs fire inspections and code compliance activities to ensure compliance with City of Española ordinances, fire codes, and safety regulations; performs fire prevention and public education activities; collaborates with City departments on project and plan reviews related to fire and life safety requirements.
Assists with fire and explosion investigations as directed.
The Fire/EMS Specialist provides high-level administrative and operational support to the Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chief in the management of fire, emergency medical services (EMS), and community risk reduction programs. Responsibilities include obtaining quotes and processing purchase orders; maintaining departmental records; assisting with staff training and ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and departmental requirements; assisting with EMS licensure, continuing education, and certification records;
supporting EMS quality improvement, patient care reporting, protocol compliance, and medical equipment management; assisting with the development and maintenance of EMS policies, procedures, and emergency preparedness initiatives; analyzing EMS performance data; and supporting fire prevention, public education, community risk reduction, and other departmental initiatives.
Work involves technical, operational, and administrative responsibilities requiring independent judgment, problem-solving, and prioritization. Duties frequently involve changing conditions, multiple assignments, emergency response situations, and coordination with various agencies and stakeholders. Each situation presents unique demands which add to the overall complexity of the job.
This is an administrative position generally expected to be performed Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm.
