The liaison promotes a culture of student engagement and is a vital connection between home, school, and the broader community.

  • Communicate with students and families through phone calls, letters, in-person meetings, and home visits to discuss attendance concerns and encourage school engagement.
  • Collaborate with school counselors, administrators, and social workers to develop and implement individualized attendance intervention plans.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records of student attendance interventions and follow-ups in compliance with FERPA and district guidelines.
  • Partner with local agencies, including Rio Arriba County programs, youth services, tribal entities, and other support organizations to connect families with needed resources (transportation, housing, health care, mental health, etc.).
  • Educate families on New Mexico's Attendance for Success Act and the importance of regular school attendance for student success.
  • Participate in Student Assistance Team (SAT) meetings, truancy hearings, and other related district or community-based meetings.
  • Support and promote district wide attendance initiatives, incentive programs, and awareness campaigns.
  • Provide regular reports and updates on attendance trends and intervention outcomes to district leadership.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in social work, education, behavioral science, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working in schools or with youth and families in the Española or Northern New Mexico region preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Tewa/Tiwa) preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Understanding of New Mexico's Attendance for Success Act and truancy prevention best practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and student data systems (e.g., Power School).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate sensitivity to student and family needs.
Working Conditions:
