Attendance Liaison
The Attendance Liaison supports Española Public Schools in ensuring that students attend school regularly and on time. This role works collaboratively with families, school staff, and community partners to address barriers to attendance and implement intervention strategies aligned with New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) attendance and truancy policies. The liaison promotes a culture of student engagement and is a vital connection between home, school, and the broader community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Monitor daily and monthly attendance data using EPSD's student information system (e.g., Power School) to identify students at risk for chronic absenteeism or truancy.
- Communicate with students and families through phone calls, letters, in-person meetings, and home visits to discuss attendance concerns and encourage school engagement.
- Collaborate with school counselors, administrators, and social workers to develop and implement individualized attendance intervention plans.
- Maintain accurate, confidential records of student attendance interventions and follow-ups in compliance with FERPA and district guidelines.
- Partner with local agencies, including Rio Arriba County programs, youth services, tribal entities, and other support organizations to connect families with needed resources (transportation, housing, health care, mental health, etc.).
- Educate families on New Mexico's Attendance for Success Act and the importance of regular school attendance for student success.
- Participate in Student Assistance Team (SAT) meetings, truancy hearings, and other related district or community-based meetings.
- Support and promote district wide attendance initiatives, incentive programs, and awareness campaigns.
- Provide regular reports and updates on attendance trends and intervention outcomes to district leadership.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in social work, education, behavioral science, or a related field preferred.
- Experience working in schools or with youth and families in the Española or Northern New Mexico region preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Tewa/Tiwa) preferred.
- Understanding of New Mexico's Attendance for Success Act and truancy prevention best practices.
- Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and student data systems (e.g., Power School).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate sensitivity to student and family needs.
- Frequent travel between school sites and community locations within the Española area.
- Occasional home visits and flexible scheduling, including some evening or weekend hours, may be required.
- Work involves sitting, walking, driving, and interacting with students and families in varied environments.
