McKinney Veto Coordinator
The McKinney-Vento Program Coordinator serves as the District Homeless Liaison and is responsible for ensuring that children and youth experiencing homelessness are identified, enrolled, and provided equal access to educational programs and services as required under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. The Coordinator works collaboratively with district staff, families, community agencies, and government organizations to eliminate barriers to enrollment, attendance, academic success, and school stability for students experiencing homelessness.
The Coordinator provides leadership in program implementation, case management, compliance monitoring, professional development, grant administration, community partnerships, and state and federal reporting. The position ensures that all district practices comply with federal law, New Mexico Public Education Department requirements, and district policies while promoting educational equity and student success.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree in Education, Social Work, Human Services, Public Administration, Counseling, or a related field preferred.
- Associate Degree with significant experience working with at-risk youth or families may be considered.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in education, student services, social services, family engagement, or related field.
- Experience working with homeless, foster, migrant, or highly mobile populations preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Valid New Mexico Driver's License.
- Successful completion of district background clearance and all employment requirements.
- McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act.

- Provide professional development to district staff.
Resources Used in Performing Job Include (but are not limited to) District Student Information System (NOVA), Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, district transportation software, grant management systems, community resource databases, communication systems, and standard office equipment.
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, communicate verbally and electronically, travel throughout the district and community, and occasionally lift materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Requires strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills while managing multiple priorities.
Work is performed in schools, district offices, community agencies, shelters, hotels, transitional housing facilities, and family residences as appropriate. Frequent district-wide travel is required. Evening and weekend meetings may occasionally be necessary.
Program Administration- Serve as the District McKinney-Vento Homeless Liaison as required under federal law.
- Coordinate implementation of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Program throughout the district.
- Ensure district compliance with all federal and state homeless education requirements.
- Develop procedures that eliminate barriers to enrollment, attendance, and educational success.
- Maintain district McKinney-Vento policies and procedures.
- Identify children and youth experiencing homelessness through outreach and collaboration with schools and community agencies.
- Ensure immediate enrollment of eligible students regardless of missing documentation.
