Senior Payroll Manager

Summary: XTL Transport Inc., is looking for a Payroll Practitioner with a strong work ethic and a positive team attitude. The Payroll Practitioner is responsible payroll processing, payroll controls, and be a compliance expert and liaison between Payroll and HR. This position may on occasional require travel to Montreal and potentially other locations.

Qualifications:

  • Subject matter expert in payroll Compliance & Regulations with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), Labour Canada, and Provincial regulations.

  • Subject matter expert in deduction and benefits relating to CPP, EI, taxes, Health, and RRSP’s.

  • In-depth understanding of federal legislation, labour standards, and payroll procedures

  • Canadian Payroll Association Certification or similar certification required.

  • Knowledge and experience in working in payroll systems – must have experience in WFN – ADP (minimum 2 years).

  • Experience in reviewing multiple payroll cycles and multiple company codes in a larger or mid-size organization.

  • Strong Excel and data management skills

  • Experience with interdepartmental groups including HR, and operations, and some management experience in payroll is a bonus.

  • Excellent time management, organizational and people skills.

  • High attention to detail, strict confidentiality, strong communication, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Responsibilities:

  • Manage full-cycle, end-to-end bi-weekly and weekly payroll for employees, including hourly, salaried, and short term/contract staff.

  • Data review and maintenance to help with controls, via ADP reports to ensure compliance.

  • Act as the primary contact for payroll inquiries, resolving discrepancies for employees and management.

  • Liaison between human resources and finance to follow company policies and procedures.

  • Follow year-end procedures for T4, T4A, R1 1 slips, and year end compliance with various agencies.

  • Assist in audits, assistance in preparation and review of audit work papers

  • Manage internal departmental relationships and external Audit relationships well.

  • Occasionally reviewing vacation accrual reports and other reports as needed with ADP to ensure accuracy and good controls.

  • Perform ad hoc projects and analysis as requested.
