About the RoleWe are seeking an Electrical Engineer to join a newly formed Sustaining Engineering team within a high‑volume industrial manufacturing environment. This role focuses on supporting and improving electrical systems and components after product release, with a strong emphasis on product support, diagnostics, reliability, and lifecycle performance.
This position blends reactive engineering support—troubleshooting test failures and yield issues—with proactive reliability work, including warranty trend analysis, component lifecycle management, and cost‑reduction initiatives. You will work cross‑functionally with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, service, and plant engineering teams to resolve issues, validate design changes, and support uninterrupted production.
What You’ll Do- Troubleshoot and diagnose production test failures using automated test equipment, unit‑under‑test systems, sequenced test scans, and repeatability testing.
- Support manufacturing and quality teams with day‑to‑day product issues, test yield problems, diagnostic investigations, and field‑reported failures.
- Own engineering responsibilities previously split between QA and R&D, including product reliability review, warranty activity monitoring, and identifying systemic failure trends.
- Implement changes to schematics, PCBAs, wiring harnesses, and documentation to improve quality, reliability, or manufacturability.
- Address issues such as over‑voltage failures, noise immunity concerns, or signal interference by adjusting harness layouts, adding filtering or suppression, or creating twisted‑pair solutions.
- Evaluate and qualify alternate vendors and components due to obsolescence or supplier end‑of‑life situations; perform test and approval of replacement components.
- Use Siemens Xpedition (primary schematic capture tool) for design updates.
- Occasionally use simulation tools such as PSpice for complex or hard‑to‑reproduce diagnostics.
- Monitor warranty data and field performance metrics to identify problem areas and drive corrective action.
- Support component availability initiatives by ensuring production has viable parts, identifying alternatives, and validating replacements.
- Investigate cost escalation issues and determine root drivers to support margin improvement efforts.
- Partner with Plant Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and R&D to resolve issues and drive continuous product improvement.
- Provide technical guidance to Service, Sales, and customer‑facing teams.
- Contribute to engineering standards, best practices, and internal documentation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required
- 3–5+ years of relevant engineering experience
- Strong diagnostic and analytical skills with the ability to break down complex test data and form repeatable conclusions.
- Hands‑on engineering capability with the ability to test, validate, and implement hardware changes.
- Experience with: PCB and schematic design (Siemens Xpedition preferred), Wiring harness design and noise mitigation methods, and Automated test equipment and sequenced test systems
- Component qualification and supplier evaluation
- Excellent organizational and problem‑solving skills with the ability to manage shifting priorities.
- Manufacturing environment experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to perform hands‑on troubleshooting, testing, and validation in a production or lab setting.
