CNC Horizontal Boring Mill (HBM) Machinist
Mechanical Dynamics and Analysis LLC (MD&A) is a world‑class supplier of power generation services, parts, and repairs. The Bearings, Seal & Hydraulics division is hiring a qualified CNC Horizontal Boring Mill (HBM) Machinist to join a growing organization and tackle diverse, technically challenging work.
Job Type: Full‑time
Responsibilities- Set up, program, and operate computer‑controlled machines to precision‑machine large, heavy metal or composite work pieces.
- Read blueprints, drawings, specifications, sketches, engineering orders, work instructions, charts, and graphs to determine methods and sequence of operations.
- Program and edit G‑code, perform mathematical calculations, and layout center lines, reference points, machining guidelines, and angular dimensions.
- Set tools, offsets, and machine controls (speeds, feeds, depth of cut) and make adjustments to optimize production while maintaining quality, safety and efficiency.
- Operate overhead cranes and other rigging to position raw materials and to load/unload finished parts.
- Perform a variety of machining functions (contouring, profiling, turning, back‑spot facing, boring, milling, drilling, slotting, tapping) on a horizontal boring mill and similarly‑equipped machines.
- Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, depth micrometers, templates, fixtures) and ensure conformance to dimensional, configuration, and surface‑finish tolerances.
- Detect machine noises, vibrations, and tool wear; adjust machines and tooling accordingly.
- Post‑machine hand work and deburring of components.
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Follow safety and quality policies, record keeping, and company quality‑management system.
- Proficient blueprint reading and technical drawing analysis.
- Strong mathematical skills—calculations, geometry, trigonometry, and use of calculators/computers.
- Knowledge of CNC HBM operations, code programming, and control panels.
- Experience with G‑ and M‑codes and machining codes.
- Strong understanding of machining characteristics for various materials and metals.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to interpret and address equipment and tooling issues.
- Operate overhead cranes and machinery without assistance.
- Use precision measuring instruments and interpret gauges.
- Apply quality standards and gauging procedures.
- Perform under limited supervision and manage time effectively.
- Communicate effectively and maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Follow safety, clean‑up, 5S, and lean manufacturing concepts.
- Adapt and improvise tooling when standard tooling is unavailable.
- Record job timekeeping and accurate part counts.
- Follow company programming standards and maintain records.
- Report issues promptly to senior management.
- Support continuity among work shifts through documentation and communication.
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- Trade‑school machinist training (preferred).
- Readable and written language proficiency.
- Stand, walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed.
- Use hands to handle or feel, and frequently reach with arms.
- Lift up to 50 pounds.
- Shop‑floor environment with exposure to fumes, airborne particles, metal chips, moving mechanical parts, and vibration within acceptable limits.
