Embassy Healthcare Position Title

RN (Registered Nurse) – Hourly (Nursing).

Reports to:

Director of Nursing.

Purpose of Your Job Position

The primary purpose of this position is to provide direct nursing care to residents and supervise day‑to‑day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.

Delegation of Authority

As an RN, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary to carry out duties within the RN scope of practice defined by the Ohio Nurse Practice Act/"ORC Chapter 4723".

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities
  • Administrative Functions
    • Direct the day‑to‑day functions of nurses and nursing assistants in accordance with facility rules and regulations.
    • Ensure compliance with written policies and procedures.
    • Review and recommend revisions of policies, procedure manuals, and job descriptions.
    • Plan shift services, programs, and activities with nursing staff.
    • Maintain current Nursing Service Procedures Manual.
    • Ensure personnel comply with procedures documented in the manual.
    • Provide written and oral reports to the Director of Nursing.
    • Coordinate nursing services with other resident services.
    • Enforce job‑description compliance among staff.
    • Participate in the quality assurance program.
    • Participate in facility surveys and prepare the unit for inspections.
    • Review resident discharge plans and update as necessary.
    • Assist in planning the nursing portion of discharge plans.
    • Participate in weekly care conferences.
    • Interpret policies for personnel, residents, visitors, and agencies.
    • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents.
    • Ensure accuracy of accident/incident reports.
    • Perform administrative duties such as medical form completion, reports, evaluations, studies, and charting.
  • Charting and Documentation
    • Complete and file required record‑keeping forms at admission, transfer, and discharge.
    • Review new admission charts for accuracy and follow up.
    • Encourage physicians to review treatment plans and sign orders.
    • Ensure physician order accuracy and transcribe orders to charts.
    • Review nurse notes for compliance with charting guidelines.
    • Document accidents/incidents and report discrepancies.
    • Fill transfer forms as per procedures.
    • Record unauthorized discharges appropriately.
    • Perform routine charting in accordance with policies.
    • Sign and date all entries in residents’ medical records.
  • Drug Administration Functions
    • Ensure medication administration by staff as ordered.
    • Maintain adequate floor stock and report needs.
    • Order prescribed medications, supplies, and equipment.
    • Maintain accurate narcotic records.
    • Notify of drug or narcotic discrepancies.
    • Review medication records for completeness and accuracy.
    • Notify attending physicians of automatic stop orders.
    • Dispose of drugs and narcotics in accordance with procedures.
  • Personnel Functions
    • Participate in performance evaluations and staffing recommendations.
    • Notify Director of Nursing of staffing needs and absences.
    • Report absentee call‑ins.
    • Evaluate workforce and recommend to Nurse Supervisor.
    • Develop work assignments.
    • Lead nursing personnel.
    • Make daily rounds and report problems.
    • Ensure nurse aide trainees are supervised by a licensed nurse.
    • Meet regularly with shift staff to address issues.
    • Enforce department policies and procedures.
    • Maintain rapport with inter‑departmental personnel.
    • Create a warm and calm unit environment.
    • Review complaints and grievances.
    • Administer disciplinary action fairly.
    • Exchange the nursing report at shift change.
    • Report occupational exposures to blood and hazardous materials.
  • Nursing Care Functions
    • Notify nursing personnel of new admissions and room assignments.
    • Prepare rooms for new admissions.
    • Orchestrate orientation of new residents/families.
    • Make rounds with physicians.
    • Arrange diagnostic and therapeutic services.
