Position Description
SEEKING
:
Grading/Underground Foreman/Superintendents, Wildish Construction Co. for Eugene, Oregon.
REPORTS TO
:
General Superintendent, Manager and Company Owners
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Foreman/Superintendents are responsible for field operations for a wide variety of City/County/State projects and privately owned projects. Primary duties include but are not limited to the supervision of various site work activities - directing workers, interfacing with construction inspection, and coordinating field activities in conjunction with a project manager/engineer.
Duties
:
- Supervise construction efforts to ensure projects are constructed according to specifications, within budget, on schedule, with the appropriate personnel and equipment while ensuring the safety of workforce and the public.
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise on-site functions and provide input with scheduling, engineering and material needs in order to make sure project objectives are met.
- Strong focus on development of craft workforce and the ability to attract and retain quality, skilled craft employees.
- Interface with all on-site work teams (including subcontractors), as required, to resolve problems, and to ensure quality and safety.
- Comply, understand and support Wildish corporate safety initiatives to ensure a safe work environment.
Skills:
- Preferred 5 years or more of grading or underground (or both) experience
- Laborer or Operator background highly desirable
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and leadership skills
- Good organization and communication skills
- Ability to coordinate field workers and with other foreman/superintendents and craft personnel
- Work with diverse group of individuals/organizations representing public agencies, utilities, subcontractors and suppliers
- Working knowledge of other heavy civil work: excavation, grading, underground, asphalt and concrete.
• Strength: Capable of routinely lifting and carrying 30 pounds waist to shoulder height; occasionally lifting, pushing or pulling loads of 50 pounds, and wearing personal protective equipment.
• Flexibility :Capable of walking on uneven, loose and/or broken surfaces; squatting, twisting, bending and/or reaching to lift or place loads; climbing up and down stairs, steps, ramps and/or ladders, and/or into and out of excavations and/or confined spaces.
• Dexterity: Capable of performing multiple tasks simultaneously (e.g., holding two boards together and nailing them; holding a flagger's paddle and talking on the radio, balancing on a pipe and hand signaling for backfill).
• Respiratory Capacity: Capable of wearing a respiratory protection device while working in hazardous atmospheric conditions.
• Endurance: Capable of performing assigned duties for eight or more hours at a time in hot, cold, daylight, nighttime, wet and/or dusty environments and/or in confined, high, noisy and or heavily trafficked conditions.
• Responsiveness: Capable of identifying through sight, sound, smell and/or touch, and reacting quickly to, hazardous situations.
• Communication: Capable of verbally asking questions, responding to questions, relaying information, and responding to and alerting others of hazardous situations.
• Mental: Capable of understanding/following/giving instructions; remembering and repeating routine tasks; recognizing and following common safety practices; evaluating workers' performance.

Compensation varies depending on experience and union master agreements.
