Screed Operator

This is a skilled position involving control and operation of the screed on the asphalt paving machine. The operator must thoroughly understand all aspects of the paving industry, including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving. The operator controls material taken into the paver, the depths of material distributed, and leads in planning the job, walking and marking the plan with foreman or paver operator, measuring passes, determining the yield of a truckload, communicating with the pacing operator, and monitoring mat, edges, joints and other aspects of job quality.

• Must be a current member or able to join Operators#701.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• At least 1-2 years of previous experience in construction, specifically in paving equipment/operations or related education/experience.
• Must have knowledge of proper equipment operation, grade, and work operations.
• Must pass pre-employment physical exam and pre-employment controlled substance testing.
• Demonstrates the ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and nights as needed.
• Demonstrates the ability to conform to and maintain OSHA, MSHA, DOT and all other company or state rules and regulations.
• Must have current US Authorization to work or ability to obtain without company assistance prior to start date.

• Valid CDL License.

• Operate Roller, Paver or Screed, Blade, Loader, Backhoe, or other heavy equipment.
• Load and unload equipment and secure equipment on trailer.
• Assist labor crew including shoveling, raking, and compacting asphalt materials.
• Routinely assist other members of the workforce in different areas of production.
• Promptly communicate with supervisors on any flaws in material.
• Take action to avoid potential hazards or obstructions.
• Other tasks and duties as assigned to meet business needs.
• Regular and timely attendance.
• Participate in and promote an inclusive work environment.

• Regularly exposed to traffic hazards, moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually loud; PPE will be provided by our team to keep you safe. Please provide your own pair of steel-toed boots.
• Job requires motions: bending, hammering, stooping, pushing, pulling, squatting, throwing, walking and standing occupy most of the day.
