Overview
Central Lane 911 is recruiting for 911 Call-Taker/Dispatchers. The role requires responding quickly and appropriately to emergency and non-emergency situations, with strong attention to detail and a commitment to customer service. New hires as Communications Specialist 1 will undergo intensive training to become proficient in call-taking and dispatching, with progression to Communications Specialist 2.
Responsibilities- Operate 911 and non-emergency telephone lines, performing general intake of calls.
- Determine type of call, appropriate response, and responsible agency to dispatch.
- Evaluate information to determine jurisdiction, equipment, and personnel needed; transmit information to dispatchers or jurisdictions as required.
- Maintain familiarity with major streets, buildings, and geographic locations within Lane County.
- Dispatch and monitor emergency public safety activities as directed.
- Experience:
One year of work experience in a fast-paced environment, including data entry. - Education:
High school diploma or GED. - Licenses/Certificates: CPR Certification;
Emergency Medical Dispatch Certification;
Basic Telecommunicator Certificate (DPSST) within 18 months of appointment. - Background/Medical:
Must pass police background investigation; no felony convictions; no Class A Misdemeanor convictions within 24 months of application; must pass background documents as requested; must pass psychological, medical, and drug screening as required by DPSST; drug screen, hearing test, and visual acuity test as applicable.
Salary ranges for Communications Specialist 1 and 2 are published with potential for bilingual pay up to 5% of base salary for qualifying bilingual competencies. Schedule and LocationWork is performed at Central Lane 911 Communications Center, Eugene, OR. The schedule operates 24/7 with a four 10-hour shift pattern and varying night/evening hours, including weekends and holidays.
Hiring Process and TimelineTypical steps include application submission, online testing (Criti Call), interviews, comprehensive background investigation, psychological evaluation, medical testing, and a hire date. Dates are tentative and subject to change. Orientation and training involve a six-week classroom academy followed by extensive on-the-job training.
