Position SummaryThe Medical Director provides strategic oversight and clinical leadership for all medical services, a department with an operating budget of approximately $9.2 million. The Medical Director plays a pivotal role in guiding a multidisciplinary team of over 50 clinical professionals, including 14 direct reports, to deliver high‑quality, student‑centered care. The leadership team includes the Assistant Medical Director, Assistant Director of Clinical Services, and Assistant Director of Nursing Services.
The Medical Director mentors, consults, and leads physicians, advanced care providers, nurses, and ancillary staff. Under the general direction of the Executive Director of UHS, the Medical Director champions evidence‑based clinical excellence, fosters continuous improvement, and ensures alignment with best practices in college health. The Medical Director also provides direct care to UO students and serves in a consultative role for other areas of clinical care such as physical therapy, dental, pharmacy, lab, and radiology.
The position serves as a key liaison to the broader University of Oregon community and local medical partners.
Strategic oversight and clinical leadership for medical services; mentorship and consultation for clinical staff; direct clinical care; liaison with campus stakeholders; maintain compliance with background and medical screening requirements.
Minimum Requirements- Graduate of an accredited medical or osteopathic school.
- M.D. or D.O. licensure by the Oregon Medical Board, or ability to obtain by agreed upon start date.
- Valid Drug Enforcement Administration certification for prescription of controlled substances, or ability to obtain by agreed upon start date.
- Current American Heart Association CPR certification, or ability to obtain by agreed upon start date.
- Maintains ABMS‑approved board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine or Emergency Medicine.
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Basic computer skills and experience with practice management software.
