Department Overview
OHSU Family Medicine is part of OHSU School of Medicine. Family Medicine clinics are home to more than 120,000 patients every year, but despite the large number, our physicians, nurses and other clinic staff know their patients – and their families – by name. We provide all that family medicine has to offer – from maternity care through geriatrics. Our patient care is among the nation's best, ranked #1 among the nation's medical school family medicine departments by U.S. News and World Report 2019, 2020 and 2021.
This is a one‑year fellowship position (non‑ACGME accredited) designed to be completed in Eugene, Oregon at the University of Oregon (UO) in the Athletic department. The fellows must have completed an ACGME accredited Sports Medicine Fellowship program and be eligible to take or have passed the Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine (CAQSM). The role will include clinical, academic, research and teaching responsibilities at UO;
fellows will spend all of their clinical time at the UO.
There will be collaboration with the OHSU Sports Medicine faculty – primarily the OHSU Sports Medicine Fellowship Director and the Associate Sports Medicine Fellowship Director – who will help develop the didactics curriculum and the academic schedule for the fellow. The head of Athletic Medicine at UO will clinically supervise the fellow in the clinical roles at the athletic department.
The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.
Function/Duties of Position Clinical Care Will Be Combination- Perform clinical visits for consultations and follow‑up care to student athletes
- Provide diagnostic and interventional musculoskeletal ultrasound clinical services
- Participate in event coverage for the UO Athletics Department
- Engage in didactic curriculum content as directed by program director
- Consultation visits with student athletes from UO on campus
- Sideline/event coverage of UO sporting events
- Mass participation event coverage
- Clinical visits in the Student Health Department at the UO. This clinical work will be under the direction of the Head of Athletic Medicine at the University of Oregon.
The Fellowship will also provide didactic and research opportunities with a special emphasis:
- Contribute to either a novel research project or ongoing research project with faculty from UO or OHSU
- Running Medicine
- Nutrition
- Diagnostic and Interventional Musculoskeletal Ultrasound applications
- Exercise as Medicine. The Fellow will participate in projects with faculty at the UO as well as with faculty from the OHSU Sports Medicine Program
- MD or DO degree
- Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatric, or Emergency Medicine residency completion
- Completion of ACGME accredited Sports Medicine Fellowship
- Board Certified/Board Eligible in specialty
- Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine (either have passed or be in good standing with fellowship currently to be in line to take CAQ in summer of year of completion of ACGME Sports Fellowship)
- Strong Foundational core in team physician skills
- Robust Sports Medicine Clinical knowledge including the evaluation, assessment, and treatment of common sports medicine musculoskeletal and medical conditions
- Comfort using musculoskeletal ultrasound for both diagnostic and interventional applications
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in regard to patient care information and chart contents; ability to maintain documentation in compliance with State, Federal, Professional and Ethical guidelines; ability to consistently utilize professional communication and conflict resolution skills with patients and staff; ability to efficiently and effectively manage multiple clinical tasks and be self‑directed; ability to use the computer system in order to obtain patient information
- Interest or exposure with Power 5 Division 1 athletic department (preferred)
