Required Qualifications

Education: Two years of post-secondary education or training with course work in the area of assignment. Equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered qualifying.

Experience: Two years of experience tutoring, mentoring, or otherwise providing one-on-one or group guidance to students at the college level.

Conditions of Employment:
Successful applicants are required to complete a criminal background check. Infractions evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Must work and reside in the state of Oregon at the time work is performed.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate's degree or higher in area of tutoring specialization. Tutoring or other student-facing work experience at a community college. CRLA tutor certification. Language statements promoting inclusivity. See original posting for full language.

Position Purpose

Support student learning through one-on-one and group tutoring sessions, bolstering strategic learning habits, subject matter knowledge, and confidence.

Essential Functions
  • Works independently and as part of a team.
  • Tutors and coaches students through assignments, preparation for assessments and projects, and supports learning course- and subject-specific material.
  • Mentors peer/student tutors as assigned.
  • Assists students to work through assigned materials or self-instructional modules.
  • Observes and diagnoses areas causing problems in course assignments, work, or personal communication.
  • Discusses problem areas with students and provides explanation, clarification, reference materials or examples.
  • May create study guides or other learning materials to support student learning.
  • Reports needs and issues to the Academic and Tutoring team as needed.
  • Problem solves and manages sensitive information with FERPA standards (training provided); maintains confidentiality and sensitivity to privacy needs of students.
