Beyond the required education and experience, instructors must have a passion for what they teach and teaching styles that support student success. Instructors are responsible for following Division and College procedures in support of teaching and learning. The primary responsibility of the apprenticeship instructor is to provide quality teaching in a full range of community college apprenticeship courses.

• Provide quality and engaging instruction in all delivery methods and formats within the Apprenticeship Program.
• Participate meaningfully in student retention and completion initiatives.
• Adapt and conform to local industry advisory committee expectations of program proficiencies.
• Plan, write, and administer Apprenticeship curricula to adhere to BOLI State-approved standards and related training requirements, including instruction in varied learning environments (in-person, online, remote, hybrid).
• Comply with the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee’s standards and expectations.
• Stay current with State and Federal code updates and align the curriculum accordingly.
• Set up and prepare class/lab materials prior to the start of class to ensure timeliness and student success in the classroom and lab spaces.

Support student learning
—activities include:

• Exhibit compliance with College policies and procedures; accountability for leave time, timesheet completion, release time, textbook ordering and related functions.
• Sustain currency in discipline and innovation in teaching.
• Participate in faculty performance evaluation process.
• Maintain and post office hours in alignment with College expectations.
• Maintain student records, attendance, grades, and other documentation; ensure a safe, quality classroom or lab, including equipment, supplies, and inventory.
• Protect student privacy in accordance with FERPA; manage sensitive information appropriately.
• Other duties as assigned; provide high-quality classroom instruction.
• Create and revise course content and materials; establish learning outcomes aligned with core outcomes; assess outcomes and use results for program and course improvements.
• Incorporate college values and promote a respectful learning environment, including awareness of multicultural and diversity issues in curricula.
• Teach and develop class syllabi and materials suitable for traditional and online formats; confer with students on course materials.
• Deliver curriculum in traditional and online formats as appropriate.

Online Teaching and Student Support

• Engage in the online course environment to ensure Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI).
• Monitor student progress and provide coaching and assistance to struggling students.
• Review and grade student work and provide timely, substantive feedback.
• Provide timely responses to student inquiries.
• Ensure materials meet Section 508 guidelines of the Rehabilitation Act.
• Use effective strategies for teaching online.

Equity and Inclusion

Faculty report to the Division Dean of Advanced Technology and perform instruction-related duties in accordance with the college’s mission, policies, and procedures:

Physical Demands / Working Environment

• Stand for long periods; use hands to handle, control, or feel objects; perform repetitive motions; bend, twist, kneel, stoop, or crouch; lift up to 25 pounds.
• Make quick, precise adjustments to machine controls.
