Job DescriptionBethel School District is seeking qualified applicants for an 8 hour per day Speech Language Pathologist Assistant. This position is for the 2026–27 school year and is scheduled to begin in September 2026, with the possibility of required training and/or meetings in August.

Nature of Work
A Speech Language Pathologist Assistant provides individual and small group support and personal assistance, often in an English Language Development class, small speech/language class, standard or special purpose educational program, to students with distinct and exceptional educational needs and challenges as determined by a licensed specialist. The primary purpose of positions in this class, which distinguishes it from positions of other classes, is to screen and assess the educational needs of students, provide instructional assistance to students in a classroom, and charting and recording results.
Clerical and word processing or computer database updating duties may be assigned to positions as time permits, but are not considered primary tasks and do not require a large percentage of time.
A position of this class may be assigned full-time to a student with a physical impairment that requires the employee to assist with school tasks the student cannot perform, such as attending class and taking notes; carrying books; adapting written school materials; personal cleanliness and hygiene; administering medication; setting up or operating specially adapted equipment; food preparation and feeding the student;
and assisting the student to communicate with teachers, classmates, and others.
A position of this class may tutor students, individually or in small groups, providing instructional assistance in a variety of subjects or courses; administers and scores standardized tests; and maintains student records in conformance with government regulations.
Examples of Work

- Determines students' educational needs by assisting a teacher with administering, scoring test results; maintains and updates student daily progress records; keeps records on test scores, grades, attendance and other related data in compliance with government funding and program requirements.
- Assists in developing lesson plans for students, prepares instructional materials, provides instructional assistance to students, tutors students, reads and paraphrases tests, and provides assistance in problem solving skills.
- Provides assistance in language, visual, gross and fine motor, and sensory skills, using a variety of developmental learning materials; develops students' reading, math, spelling, handwriting, art and music skills; performs math and reading timings, charts results in student folders, and updates computer database and other required record keeping.
- Observes and participates in recording student progress and correcting papers, confers and consults regularly with teachers about problems encountered with students, and shares behavioral and academic observations of individual students with the instructor.
- Translates materials, communicating with families in their native language and assisting licensed speech-language pathologists in meeting student IEP goals.
Supervision
Instructional assistance is provided under the professional guidance of a teacher who is responsible for discussing and preparing lesson plans, and approving instructional techniques.
