Instructor Pool – Ethnic Studies (Part‑Time Faculty)

Our Social Science Division is seeking to expand its part‑time faculty Ethnic Studies pool, both online and in‑classroom courses. The primary responsibility of the Ethnic Studies Instructor is to provide quality teaching, both online and in‑classroom, in a full range of community college Ethnic Studies courses which may include historical and contemporary racial & ethnic issues.
Essential Functions- Exhibit compliance with College policies and procedures, accounting for leave time, timesheet completion, release time, textbook ordering and related functions.
- Maintain currency in discipline and innovate in teaching.
- Participate collegially in faculty performance evaluation.
- Maintain office hours in alignment with College expectations.
- Maintain physical campus presence for instruction and the daily needs of students, departments, college, and community, as specified by College Operations Policies and Procedures.
- Maintain requirements for student records, attendance, grades, and other documentation; ensure a safe, quality classroom or lab, including equipment, supplies, and inventory.
- Problem‑solve and manage sensitive information with awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to student privacy needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Provide high‑quality classroom instruction.
- Create course content, develop and revise course materials.
- Establish learning outcomes consistent with core ability outcomes, assess outcomes using appropriate tools, and use results to inform improvement at the program and course level.
- Incorporate college values into the curriculum and promote a respectful learning environment, including facilitating awareness of multicultural and diversity issues.
- Teach and develop all class syllabi and course materials in a form that can be directly delivered to and used by students.
- Confer with students on course materials.
- Deliver curriculum in both traditional and online formats.
- Engage within the online course environment to ensure regular and substantive interaction (RSI).
- Monitor student progress and provide reasonable coaching and assistance to struggling students toward success.
- Review and grade all work submitted by students and provide timely feedback.
- Provide prompt responses to student inquiries.
- Ensure that all materials meet the guidelines of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
- Use effective strategies for teaching online.
