Position Overview

Instructor Pool – Geography (Part‑Time Faculty)

Division:
Social Science Division, Lane Community College. The position will involve teaching community college Geography courses both online and in‑classroom at the main campus in Eugene, Oregon, during the academic year .

Classification:
Contracted Part‑Time Faculty. Anticipated start date:
As assigned based on need. Salary:

Position Purpose

To provide high‑quality instruction that meets established learning aims and outcomes for Geography students. Faculty are professional educators responsible for facilitating learning for all Lane Community College students.

Essential Functions
  • Maintain compliance with college policies (leave time, timesheet completion, textbook ordering, etc.).
  • Maintain currency in discipline and teaching innovation.
  • Participate collegially in the faculty performance evaluation process.
  • Post and maintain office hours as per college expectations.
  • Maintain physical campus presence for instruction and daily student needs.
  • Ensure accurate record‑keeping for student records, attendance, grades.
  • Protect student privacy and manage sensitive information with FERPA awareness.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Curriculum Delivery
  • Provide high‑quality classroom instruction.
  • Create, develop, and revise course content and materials.
  • Establish learning outcomes, assess them, and use results to inform improvements.
  • Include college values and promote respectful learning environments.
  • Teach and develop all class syllabi and materials for delivery to students.
  • Consult with students on course materials.
  • Deliver curriculum in traditional and online formats.
Online Teaching and Student Support
  • Engage with students in online course environment to ensure regular and substantive interaction.
  • Monitor student progress and provide coaching to struggling students.
  • Review and grade all student work, provide timely feedback.
  • Respond promptly to student inquiries.
  • Ensure materials meet Section 508 ADA guidelines.
  • Use effective online teaching strategies.

Physical Demands

Varied environments: usual office, educational, commercial conditions. May involve noises, interruptions. Able to sit or stand for extended periods, perform cognitive tasks >6 hours/day, transport materials up to 25 lbs.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in Geography or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.

Successful applicants must pass a criminal background check and must reside and work in Oregon at the time of employment.
