Position PurposeTo assist teacher serving students with low incidence disabilities and social-emotional disabilities by providing behavioral support and instructional support in accordance with identified curricular guidelines and established Individual Education Plans.
Primary Duties and Accountabilities- Consult with ESD and local district staff.
- Provide assistance implementing IEP's.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings and IEP meetings to determine eligibility and develop appropriate Individual Educational Programs (IEP).
- Provide technical assistance on behavioral supports that help prevent or minimize behavioral problems.
- Assist in developing and monitoring of educational programs in all curriculum areas including functional academics, social skills, and behavior management.
- Conduct classroom observations.
- Assist teachers in observing and coaching instructional assistants to ensure effective implementation of instructional programs.
- Assist in student evaluations and referrals for services.
- Assist in the transition and maintenance of students to appropriate local district placement.
- Maintain records of services as required.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills with students, staff, family, school and community personnel as appropriate.
- Provide staff development to ESD and local district staff as requested.
- Demonstrate instructional and behavioral support techniques.
- Provide recommendations for curriculum materials.
- Assist with planning and professional development for classroom staff.
- Collaborate with other related services professionals.
- Assist with information dissemination to program staff.
- Follow-up with classroom staff regarding ESD procedural paperwork.
- Serve as a supportive and cooperative member of the staff.
- Maintain a professional demeanor when representing the District.
- Maintain current knowledge of effective practices related to job assignment.
- Attend Special Education and other staff meetings as requested.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.
- An Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission special education license or ability to obtain one is required. A degree and experience applicable to the position will be considered as an alternative to TSPC licensure.
- Demonstrated knowledge of both federal and state special education requirements as well as current best practices in the field are essential.
- At least 3 years successful experience in a similar special education environment serving students with cognitive impairments and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder is required.
- The ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students, parents and staff, and the ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with student, staff and/or parent information is required.
- A valid First Aid/CPR Card is preferred.
The teacher is normally standing, walking or sitting as required. The teacher may have to lift, bend, support and/or restrain a student whose handicapping condition or behavior requires adult assistance.
Working ConditionsGenerally, the teacher works in an indoor work environment performing clean, non-hazardous work. In addition, the teacher may occasionally be exposed to bodily fluids due to student injury, illness or behavior.

- Utilize appropriate equipment and software as established for agency use as well as other equipment and software appropriate to the assignment.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Confer regularly with immediate supervisor.
- Follow all District work procedures and reasonable requests by proper authority.
- Perform program responsibilities in accordance with statutes, administrative rules, policies, and collective bargaining agreements.
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of Board policy and the evaluation program adopted for the position.
