Job Description

Bethel School District is seeking qualified applicants for a 6 hour Educational Assistant III for Comprehensive Student Support at Fairfield Elementary School.

Nature of Work

An Educational Assistant – Comprehensive Support provides instructional, behavioral, social‑emotional, and physical assistance to students with a range of needs as determined by licensed staff. This position supports students individually, in small groups, or across entire classrooms within general education and special education settings.

In alignment with Bethel’s district‑wide commitment to inclusion, this role contributes to creating welcoming, responsive environments where all students—especially those with the highest needs—can access the resources, relationships, and opportunities they deserve in their neighborhood schools. Educational Assistants help implement inclusive practices that remove barriers, foster belonging, and support students in thriving alongside their peers. The district will offer and expect staff to engage in professional development to ensure staff are equipped to meet the diverse needs of students.

These professional development opportunities will include strategies for supporting inclusive practices, behavior support, and small group instruction.

Assignments may include:

  • Academic support and instructional reinforcement
  • Implementation of individualized behavior support plans (BSPs)
  • Emotional and behavioral regulation support
  • Supporting inclusion practices through collaboration with licensed staff and school teams
Examples of Work

These duties are illustrative only. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Facilitates instructional activities and use of materials developed by licensed staff
  • Supports students in acquiring academic, functional, communication, and social‑emotional skills
  • Administers and scores assessments; maintains documentation and daily progress records
  • Implements BSPs and follows Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) using proactive strategies such as pre‑correction, positive reinforcement, and de‑escalation
  • Provides assistance with personal care including toileting and hygiene routines
  • Uses adapted communication tools to support student participation and access
  • Supports inclusive instruction in general education classrooms and transitions across school settings
  • Participates in team planning, rounds, and debriefs focused on student inclusion and progress
  • Communicates effectively with students, teachers, specialists, and families
  • Models inclusive, strengths‑based language and practices
Supervision

Support is provided under the professional guidance of licensed staff (teachers, specialists) and administratively supervised by building or special services administrators. Work is aligned with state and federal guidelines, IEP requirements, and Bethel’s inclusive practices.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Attributes
  • Understanding of inclusive education principles and a commitment to equity
  • Knowledge of educational strategies, behavior supports, and developmental needs
  • Ability to assist with instruction and implement individualized supports
  • Willingness to learn and apply safe health and hygiene practices
  • Capacity to use trauma‑informed and restorative practices
  • Ability to observe and respond appropriately to student behaviors and social emotional needs
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow legal and ethical standards
  • Flexibility and composure in fast‑paced and changing environments
  • Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance
  • Ability to learn safe lifting and proper physical positioning techniques to place students in student desks or in passenger vehicles, as required by the position
