The only comprehensive accredited journalism program in the Pacific Northwest, the School of Journalism and Communication offers majors in advertising, journalism, media studies, and public relations. The school offers Ph.D. and M.A. degrees in Media Studies and professional master's degrees in Journalism, Multimedia Journalism, and Strategic Communication. The University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication (SOJC) seeks applicants for its Instructors and Professor of Practice positions for its open instruction pool. The pool is for part‑time, temporary, limited‑duration teaching appointments, with the possibility of renewal for up to three years. Potential courses may include undergraduate classes in multimedia, reporting, advertising, broadcast, online journalism, public relations, photojournalism, design, media studies context courses, and other related subjects in the SOJC portfolio.
Successful candidates will have professional experience related to a field in the School of Journalism and Communication, demonstrated ability of quality teaching, and a commitment to working effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
Screening of applications will take place as positions become available and will continue until positions are filled. Some courses may have the option to be remote/hybrid depending on programmatic needs and field of study.
If hired at the rank of pro‑tem professor of practice, you will also serve as a liaison between your professional field and the University of Oregon.
Minimum Requirements- Instructor: Master's degree (in exceptional circumstances, significant professional experience may substitute for an advanced degree).
- Professor of Practice: Have a substantial basis of experience equal to a tenured professor (normally a minimum of 12 years), a national/international reputation for excellence reflected in a record of significant accomplishments, a profile of accumulated professional accomplishments, and a rich and extensive background in the field.
- Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
- Knowledge of curriculum development and instruction.
- A record of excellence in establishing and maintaining partnerships with professional stakeholders in the field.
- Substantial professional experience in the subject to be taught.
- Experience teaching in a classroom setting, creating and delivering training programs, or other related experience in instruction.
