Position: Extended School Year (ESY) Speech and Language Specialist
Position Overview
This seasonal, hourly position supports the 2026 Extended School Year (ESY) Program. All ESY staff receive paid training and set‑up time on July 2.

The program runs for four weeks, with classes Tuesday–Thursday:
- Week 1:
July 7, 8, 9 - Week 2:
July 14, 15, 16 - Week 3:
July 21, 22, 23 - Week 4:
July 28, 29, 30
Staff work hours: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Student hours: 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM.
This position uniquely diagnoses and addresses student speech and language needs, working collaboratively with school personnel to design and implement remediation plans. The role is a full member of building staff and Educational Support Services, supervised by the principal in collaboration with Educational Support Services.
Essential Functions
Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment.Plan and implement a program of study following federal, state, and district goals, including school goals and curriculum that meets individual needs and development of students.Plan and implement the student's IEP for speech/language by selecting specific activities, materials, and methods related to diagnostic findings and recommendations of the evaluation team.Evaluate the needs and abilities of referred students.Organize and conduct IEP meetings and manage the IEP process in accordance with law and district requirements.Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and parents/guardians concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student conduct, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom and school in a fair and just manner.Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.Strive to maintain and improve professional competence through an ongoing program of workshops, seminars, conferences, classes, and other professional development activities.Work harmoniously with others and communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students, parents and staff.Implement individual plans (IEP).Participate in building‑level student support meetings as appropriate and multi‑disciplinary teams to collaboratively determine eligibility and services need.Attend Educational Support Services staff meetings.Participate in staff meetings, speech and language specialist meetings, in‑service meetings, and other meetings as appropriate.Be familiar with district procedures and guidelines as well as speech and language procedures and guidelines.Work effectively and collaboratively with diverse student, staff and community populations.Work with team members to accomplish mutually agreed upon goals.Respond to feedback from colleagues and administrators and apply feedback to improve skills and services to students.Strive to improve professional competence through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, classes, and other professional development activities.Manage time to complete required special education paperwork.Utilize technology fluently to manage all the components of student programs.Anticipate program needs and coordinate implementation of program components.Perform other duties as requested by the Educational Support Services Administrator.Effectively work with and respond to people from diverse cultures or backgrounds.Qualifications
- Valid Oregon teacher's license with a Speech/Language endorsement.
- ESOL endorsements preferred.
- Evidence of multi‑cultural experience and cultural competency.
- Bilingual and/or multicultural experience strongly preferred.
- Experience differentiating practices for diverse populations.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse students, staff, and community populations.
