Position: Instructor Pool - American Sign Language (ASL)

Instructor Pool – American Sign Language (ASL)

Department:
Humanities Division, Application Pool posting for Academic Year 2026. Assigned location:
Lane Community College Main Campus, Eugene, Oregon.

Classification:
Part‑Time Faculty, Contracted. Anticipated start date:
Quarterly based on Academic Term dates.

Position Purpose

Faculty members are professional educators responsible for delivering quality instruction and providing a supportive learning environment for all Lane Community College students.

Essential Functions
  • Comply with College policies and procedures, manage leave time, timesheets, textbook ordering, and other related administrative tasks.
  • Maintain currency in discipline and innovate in teaching.
  • Participate collegially in the faculty performance evaluation process.
  • Post and maintain office hours in accordance with College expectations.
  • Maintain record‑keeping requirements for student records, attendance, grades, and other documentation; ensure a safe, high‑quality classroom or lab environment.
  • Handle sensitive information with proper FERPA awareness; maintain confidentiality and privacy.
  • Provide high‑quality classroom instruction.
  • Create, develop, and revise course content and materials.
  • Establish learning outcomes, assess them with appropriate tools, and use data to improve programs and courses.
  • Integrate college values and promote respect, multicultural awareness, and inclusive learning environments.
  • Develop syllabi and course materials directly deliverable to students.
  • Consult with students on course materials.
  • Deliver curriculum in traditional and online formats.
  • Online Teaching and Student Support:
  • Engage within the online course environment to ensure regular and substantive interaction.
  • Monitor student progress and provide coaching to struggling students.
  • Grade all submitted work and provide timely, substantive feedback.
  • Respond promptly to student inquiries.
  • Ensure materials meet Section 508 guidelines.
  • Employ effective online teaching strategies.
  • Equity and Inclusion:
  • Demonstrate commitment to social justice, respect, inclusiveness, and valuing cultural and personal differences in all interactions.
  • Ensure respectful and inclusive communication regardless of personal characteristics.
  • Assist with ADA compliance, supporting access for persons with disabilities.
  • Actively support the well‑being of students, staff, and the public.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Sign Language Education, Deaf Education, Sign Language Teaching, Applied Linguistics, or closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • ACTFL Superior proficiency in ASL.
  • Experience teaching American Sign Language is preferred.
  • Experience teaching at a community college and/or developing hybrid, hyflex, or online courses is preferred.
  • Certification from the American Sign Language Teachers Association (ASLTA) – Certified Level is preferred.
Conditions of Employment
  • Successful applicants must complete a criminal background check.
  • Applicants must be able to work and reside in Oregon.
