Bethel Schools are committed to creating safe, caring, and mutually respectful environments where all students are honored and valued for their diverse cultural backgrounds, strengths, and abilities in every instructional practice and school activity to support academic achievement and student success.

Nature of Work

An Educational Assistant VI requires bilingual abilities for the classification. The role provides individual and small‑group support and personal assistance, often in an English Language Development class, small speech/language class, standard or special‑purpose educational program, to students with distinct and exceptional educational needs determined by a licensed specialist. The primary purpose of positions in this class, which distinguishes it from other classes, is to screen and assess the educational needs of students, provide instructional assistance in a classroom, and chart and record results.

Clerical and word‑processing or computer database updating duties may be assigned as time permits, but are not considered primary tasks and do not require a large percentage of time.

A position may be assigned full‑time to a student with a physical impairment that requires the employee to assist with school tasks the student cannot perform, such as attending class and taking notes; carrying books; adapting written materials; personal cleanliness and hygiene; administering medication; setting up or operating specially adapted equipment; preparing food and feeding the student; and assisting the student to communicate with teachers, classmates, and others.

The role may tutor students, individually or in small groups, providing instructional assistance in a variety of subjects or courses; administer and score standardized tests; and maintain student records in conformance with government regulations.

  • Provide assistance in language, visual, gross and fine motor, and sensory skills using a variety of developmental materials; develop students’ reading, math, spelling, handwriting, art, and music skills; perform math and reading timings, chart results in student folders, and update computer databases and other required record keeping.
  • Observe and participate in recording student progress, correcting papers, conferring and consulting regularly with teachers about problems encountered with students, and sharing behavioral and academic observations with the instructor.
  • Translate materials, communicate with families in their native language, and assist licensed speech‑language pathologists in meeting student IEP goals.
