The Department of Romance Languages, located in the School of Global Studies and Languages, is a diverse, multicultural, andplurilingual academic unit that researches and instructs in French,Italian, and Spanish languages and literatures. It is the largest language department at the University of Oregon and frequently intersects with other departments and programs on campus. The department sponsors and supports numerous activities such as lectures, film festivals, study abroad programs, international conferences, and community events.
PositionSummary
The Department of Romance Languages at the University of Oregon seeks to build a pool of qualified applicants for instructional positions in French, Italian, and Spanish (lower and upper-division language and culture classes, and upper-division literature,culture, and linguistics classes). Potential courses may include first- and second-year language courses, third-year language andculture courses, and, with appropriate credentials, introductory literature, culture, or linguistics courses or advanced undergraduate seminars. Positions may also include supervision ofmulti-section language courses.
Positions are limited duration appointments potentially renewable for up to a total of three years, based on programmatic need,funding, and performance. Screening of applications will take placeas positions become available and continue until positions arefilled.
Minimum Requirements- Master's degree in the relevant Romance language or a related field.
- Professional-level proficiency (ACTFL Superior, or equivalent) in both English and the target language.
- Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to contribute to institutional diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
- Successful college-level teaching experience.
- Experience in curriculum development, proficiency assessment,heritage language teaching, and/or service learning.
- PhD for those teaching upper-division literature, culture, and linguistics courses (course numbers 315 and above).
