The UO Department of Human Physiology is home to undergraduate and graduate students who desire strong training in human physiology and anatomy that will prepare them for careers in medicine, allied health professions, and biomedical research.

At the undergraduate level, future researchers, educators,physicians, physical therapists and other health care providers receive comprehensive, multidisciplinary training in the physical,biological, and chemical sciences that prepares them well for entrance into most professional health care-related programs. Human Physiology students also examine the health sciences from aperspective that explores the functional and structural mechanisms underlying human movement across health and disease, using avariety of physiological methods, ranging from biochemical and systems techniques through whole body analysis.

The graduate program develops researchers and health professionals who are creative thinkers and innovators capable of generating new knowledge in the physiological sciences. To this end, the department has several outstanding, funded laboratories that use physiological and engineering methods to evaluate human subject sunder a broad spectrum of experimental conditions. The Department'sfaculty members recognize that cutting-edge translational research,from basic physiological mechanisms through integrative systems physiology related to health, human movement, and physical activity, has a major influence on disease treatment and prevention.

Consequently, in the performance of their research,they routinely collaborate with physicians and other clinical personnel.

The Teaching Lab Manager manages the primary teaching labs for Human Physiology Department, utilizing specialized expertise and technical skills in anatomy and physiology to function as a subject matter expert to facilitate undergraduate labs in a unit serving approximately 1200 undergraduate majors. This position has primary responsibility and broad authority for all aspects of the unit'sinstructional lab prep, including the health, safety, equipment,and supply needs for the associated classes.

This position helps supervise and support the undergraduate and graduate student teaching assistants and is responsible for the preparation and training of lab teaching assistants, maintaining lab supplies and equipment, and updating lab materials and content. The position reports to the Department Head for Human Physiology but primarily works with Instructors of Record (IOR) under minimal supervision.

• Bachelors degree related to anatomy and physiology.
• One (1) year of experience with human-based physiology lab instruction.
