Position OverviewThe Automation Technician is responsible for supporting and enhancing industrial automation systems across U.S. manufacturing facilities. Core tasks include programming and troubleshooting PLCs, SCADA, and other automated equipment; updating firmware; executing system modifications; guiding contractors; contributing to cybersecurity initiatives; and conducting site visits for wiring and maintenance. The role is newly created, remote‑based, ideally located along the I‑5 corridor between Tacoma, Washington and Eugene, Oregon, with up to 35% travel to U.S. and Canadian plants and an occasional remote on‑call rotation.
Key Responsibilities- Program PLC, SCADA, and HMI (primarily Rockwell products)
- Troubleshoot PLC, SCADA, VFD, instruments, and network components
- Support operations and sequence modifications, including recipes
- Assist engineering during process modifications
- Travel to facilities to assess equipment, modify systems, or calibrate instruments
- Plan and guide contractors during system modifications
- Participate in continuous improvement of networks and cybersecurity
- Stay informed of new products and incorporate continuous improvement
- Plan system migrations and work to reduce shutdowns
- Migrate systems and update firmware
- Pole classing system
- Cybersecurity system deployment
- Complete SCADA migration
- Five or more years of manufacturing automation experience
- Programming knowledge with LADDER, FONCTION BLOCK, and SFC
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills
- Excellent knowledge of industrial processes
- Ability to read and understand P&
- SQL knowledge (a plus)
- Knowledge of wood products industry processes (a plus)
- Valid passport for travel to Canada
