Job Description & How to Apply Below

Modular Tooling Platform Designer

Founded in 1991 and family-owned, my client is a globally recognized leader in sustainable secondary packaging solutions. The company designs and manufactures innovative injection-molded multipack handles and automated application equipment for the food, beverage, and consumer goods industries, serving customers ranging from emerging brands to some of the world's leading consumer product companies.

Your Unique Role with the Organization

Step into a highly visible and technically unique design role where you will help architect and advance the company's next generation modular tooling platform.

  • Design and develop modular injection mold architectures that supports scalability, repeatability, flexibility, and faster deployment across multiple product lines.
  • Establish and advance standardized mold base strategies, interchangeable cavity and insert systems, and reusable tooling concepts designed to maximize asset utilization and reduce redundant capital investment.
  • Design and optimize injection molds for high-volume HDPE multipack handles, including complete mold layouts covering gating, cooling, venting, ejection, and overall mold functionality.
  • Create detailed 3D models, complex assemblies, and manufacturing drawings using Solid Works, with a strong emphasis on system-level design, manufacturability, consistency, and repeatability.
  • Help move the company beyond one-off tooling solutions by developing standards and common design strategies that can be applied and adapted across future products and programs.
  • Work closely with Product Development, Manufacturing Engineering, Production, and external mold-building partners to ensure tooling concepts are successfully carried from design through build, launch, validation, and production.
  • Apply DFM, GD&T, tolerance analysis, and root-cause problem solving to develop robust tooling solutions capable of supporting demanding, high-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Evaluate existing tooling and identify opportunities for reuse, modification, standardization, or improved asset utilization.
  • Drive continuous improvement across the tooling platform, identifying opportunities to improve manufacturing flexibility, reduce capital requirements, shorten tooling lead times, and support faster product launches.
  • Bring a systems-thinking mindset to tooling design, understanding not just how to build an individual mold, but how each design can fit into a larger, scalable tooling ecosystem.
What We Are Looking For :

• 5+ years of hands-on experience designing plastic injection molds, preferably within a high-volume manufacturing environment.

• Strong understanding of injection molding, mold construction, tooling components, and the practical requirements of designing molds for reliable production.

• Advanced proficiency with Solid Works, including complex assemblies, 3D modeling, and detailed engineering drawings.

• Experience with modular tooling, standardized mold bases, interchangeable inserts or cavities, tooling reuse, or other platform-based tooling strategies is highly valued.

• Strong understanding of DFM, GD&T, tolerance analysis, mold manufacturability, and injection mold design fundamentals.

• Experience designing tooling for high-volume injection molding, ideally involving HDPE, packaging, consumer products, or another demanding production environment.

• The ability to think beyond individual mold designs and understand how tooling can be standardized, reused, adapted, and optimized as part of a larger manufacturing strategy.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify complex design or manufacturing issues and develop practical, scalable solutions.

• The ability to collaborate effectively with Product Development, Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Tooling suppliers, and other cross-functional teams.

• Experience with high-cavitation tooling, hot runner systems, valve gates, advanced cooling strategies, or mold-flow simulation tools such as Moldflow or Moldex3D would be a plus.

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Tool Design, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline is preferred; however,…
