General Function
Responsible for profitable business development and monitoring the quality of an existing portfolio of companies with annual gross sales of at least $50 million and generally less than $500 million within a specific geographic area. Build trusted advisory relationships with senior executives and lead relationship strategies with One Bank partners for large, complex clients and prospects. Provide valuable credit, commercial products and financial statement analysis to offer banking solutions such as loans, treasury management and capital markets.
Represent the bank in public debt issuance activities and community engagement.
- Work independently to identify and develop profitable new client relationships by leveraging centers of influence, existing clients and referral sources.
- Grow long‑term profitable relationships with assigned clients.
- Collaborate with Fifth Third internal partners to deepen existing relationships and acquire new high‑value prospective relationships.
- Attend community and industry forums, conferences, and meetings to broaden relationship networks and deepen knowledge of trends, practices, services and the competitive landscape.
- Work with One Bank partners to analyze, evaluate and develop tailored relationship strategies for each client or prospect.
- Plan and conduct relationship strategy review meetings with internal partners and client trusted advisors such as attorneys and accountants.
- Ensure customer relationships are managed to maximize the bank’s opportunity while taking into account risk and customer needs.
- Meet regularly with customers to enhance the trusted advisor relationship and ensure business needs are met.
- Lead and coordinate all client‑facing activities, including credit support, treasury management and capital markets.
- Use the bank’s CRM system for client activity tracking, call reporting and pipeline management.
- Apply consultative selling skills, commercial playbook principals and call reporting plans to enhance the client experience.
- Analyze financial information to determine credit requests to pursue.
- Partner with portfolio managers and credit officers on credit requests and adhere to established portfolio management guidelines.
- Monitor ongoing customer financial performance, condition and industry trends to assess credit exposure and pricing.
No formal supervisory responsibilities. Expected to provide guidance to Commercial RM I & II.
Minimum Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
Required
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 10 years of commercial banking experience, 9 years of relationship account management experience.
- Formalized commercial credit training or equivalent credit experience required; underwriting experience preferred.
- Proven track record of partnership with investment bankers to provide strategic and capital market advice.
- Strong business acumen with detailed analysis of financial statements and accounting principles.
- Proficient knowledge of commercial, treasury management and alternative lending and financing options.
- Ability to assess client needs, profitability drivers and corporate/personal life cycle to optimize financial solutions.
- Excellent presentation skills in both large and small group settings and ability to communicate with impact.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, particularly in face‑to‑face negotiations.
- Experience working in a team‑based sales environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; familiarity with prospecting and CRM sales tools preferred.
- Will travel regionally or locally as required.
