About the Position
Applicants will perform law enforcement telecommunications work in a dynamic 24/7 dispatch center, handling non-emergency and 9‑1‑1 call-taking, police and fire responder dispatching, and a full range of other professional duties.
About the DivisionThe Lane County Sheriff’s Office is committed to justice and integrity, sworn to protect and serve residents and visitors. It provides correctional services, a jail, a community corrections center (work‑release), and out‑of‑custody programs such as community service and an inmate work crew. The county covers over 4,600 square miles, with nearly 300 staff and volunteers supporting its services.
ScheduleMust be available to work all days and shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Overtime may be required.
Education- Completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent.
- One year of multi‑line telephone system experience and police‑related clerical work, or public safety communications work, or public contact work.
- Alternatively, an equivalent combination of experience and training that demonstrates the required knowledge and abilities.
- Possession of LEDS certification or ability to obtain within six months of initial appointment.
- Possession of Telecommunicator certification or ability to obtain within one year of initial appointment.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre‑employment examination process, thorough background investigation, criminal records check, drug screen, TB test, hearing and vision testing. Applicants convicted of a felony or serious misdemeanor will not qualify.
Employment is also contingent upon passing the following:
- Zone Testing: work performance, multi‑task, manipulative skills test.
- Interview: all eligible candidates will be contacted by phone for an interview.
- Background Investigation: psychological examination, evaluation with a psychologist, and medical examination with drug screen and TB test.
