Overview
Central Lane 911 is hiring 911 Call Taker/Dispatchers. Candidates will respond quickly and appropriately to emergency and non‑emergency situations, pay great attention to detail and provide unmatched customer service. New hires start as Communications Specialist 1, complete intensive training, and advance to Communications Specialist 2.
Responsibilities- Operate computer terminal and radio/telephone equipment.
- Answer 911 and non‑emergency calls for police, fire, ambulance and other requests.
- Determine type of call, appropriate response and responsible agency.
- Evaluate information to determine jurisdiction, equipment and personnel to dispatch.
- Transmit information to the dispatcher or responsible jurisdiction as required.
- Maintain knowledge of major streets, roads, public buildings, industrial plants and geographic locations in Lane County.
- Dispatch and monitor emergency public‑safety activities.
- One year experience in a fast‑paced environment with data entry.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Possession or ability to obtain within three months of appointment:
- CPR certification.
- EMD certification.
- Basic Telecommunicator Certificate (DPSST) within 18 months.
- Pass a police background investigation. No felony convictions. No Class A misdemeanor convictions within 24 months.
- Pass a psychological evaluation, physical assessment and drug test.
- Complete hearing and visual acuity tests as required by DPSST.
Salary ranges start at Step 1 for a Communications Specialist 1 and increase by step ($30.27 – $33.39 hourly, $33.39 – $42.64 hourly for Specialists
2). Communication Specialists may earn up to an additional 20% premium pay after three years.
Union Representation: Eugene Police Employees’ Association (EPEA).
Bilingual Pay Benefit: Up to 5% of base salary for fluent applicants.
ScheduleCentral Lane 911 operates 24/7. Workweek consists of four 10‑hour shifts with three days off. Shift options:
Early Days 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.;
Late Days 11:45 a.m. – 9:45 p.m.;
Early Nights 4:45 p.m. – 2:45 a.m.;
Late Nights 9:30 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.
