Job Description
Peace Health is seeking a Medical Assistant – Family Practice for a Per Diem/Relief, Day position. Salary range: $25.62 – $34.58. Hiring rate depends on education, training, work experience, collective bargaining terms, seniority, etc.
Job SummaryIn collaboration with the healthcare team, assists physicians/providers in the delivery of patient care within the scope of practice for a Medical Assistant.
Details of the Position- Prepares patients for examination and treatment or anesthesia interview as applicable. Takes and records patient history and vital signs.
- Prepares exam and/or treatment rooms; selects, sets up and maintains medical supplies and equipment for all examinations, procedures, and/or anesthesia interview as applicable.
- Gives injections, applies splints and dressings, and facilitates simple wound management under provider orders.
- Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization.
- May transport specimens.
- May assist in scheduling patients for tests, initial and follow‑up appointments.
- May maintain patient files, records, and other information including entry of data into electronic medical record.
- May provide phone screening of the patient to appropriate clinical staff and/or physician.
- Collaborates with personnel and departments to ensure smooth clinic operations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Accredited Program:
Medical Assistant or Medical Office Assistant that allows caregiver to sit for the MOA certification exam (e.g., associate degree in Allied Health). - Apprenticeship:
Medical Assistant.
- Minimum of 1 year preferred: experience in a medical office.
- Required:
National Medical Assistant Certification (e.g., Certified Medical Assistant through AAMA;
Registered Medical Assistant through AMT;
Clinical Medical Assistant certification through NHA;
National Certified Medical Assistant through NCCT;
Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) administered by AMCA;
Registered Medical Assistant through AAH;
Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant administered by the National Association for Health Professionals). - Required:
Upon hire Basic Life Support.
- Knowledge of age‑specific principles and life stages to meet patient needs (required).
- Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality (required).
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members (required).
- Proficiency in computer and office equipment; familiarity with desktop computing tools, multi‑line phone systems and insurance billing preferred (required).
- Efficient time management and task prioritization (required).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (required).
- Understanding of asepsis principles if applicable (required).
- For clinic locations where caregiver will perform both Medical Assistant and Diagnostic Technician functions: must meet qualifications and perform essential functions of Diagnostic Technician job profile in addition to those for the Medical Assistant.
- Must have current Medical Assistant national certification or be a National Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) at date of hire. Medical Assistants hired before July 1, 2018 required to obtain certification no later than July 1, 2020.
- Must have current Medical Assistant National certification, Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant or be a National Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) at date of hire.
- Education:
NHA CCMA certification fulfills the education requirement.
- Does not perform Essential Functions 3, 4, 5 or 8 above.
- May provide phone screening of patient to obtain general admission history, medication reconciliation, and schedule appointment for clinic visit.
- Minimum of two years post‑certification experience in a medical office and/or a minimum of two years’ experience in surgical offices required.
- Requires pushing and pulling patients on gurneys into and out of hyperbaric chambers.
