As an Off-site Catering Event Captain, you are part of a team tasked to ensure our events meet the high quality service expectations our clients are hiring us to provide for their event. You must provide courteous and effective service by maintaining an efficient, clean, and helpful atmosphere while on duty. Your responsibilities include managing a service team while maintaining the timeline and service standards of our events.
You are the face of the company to our clients during events and must act as such. Event Captains report to Services and Logistics Managers and are under the direction of Banquet Supervisors during events.
Prerequisites to the Event Captain Position: 2-3 years in Off-site Catering or Equivalent Fine Dining Experience and Clean Driving Record.
Your general personal responsibilities include:- Reporting to work on time and in proper dress code.
- Following all Food Handlers and OLCC regulations.
- Assisting the team in packing, staging, and cleaning for all events.
- Upholding Sheild Service Standards before, during, and after events.
- Acting as an efficient and strong member of our service team during your shift.
- Maintaining a courteous and professional attitude at all times.
- Monitoring food items to ensure quality of presentation and safety are maintained.
- Helping with other duties/special projects.
- Strong and consistent attention to detail.
- Ease in staying organized during a hectic situation.
- Ability to problem solve in situations with high ambiguity.
- Ability to stay calm and collected in periods of high stress.
- Strong and clear written and spoken communication with the team.
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable transport to work.
- Current Food Handler’s License and SERV Safe Certification by 01.01.2026
- Current OLCC when handling alcohol as regulations require.
- Managing guest experiences during events. This entails:
- Resolving issues as they occur. This includes:
- Knowing and maintaining Sheild Catering systems, standards, and best practices. Such as:
- Very strong problem solving skills.
- Great reading comprehension and ability. Event Captains must be able to understand and enforce normal and complex BEOs (Banquet Event Order).
- Strong training and delegation skills.
- Good driving record. Captains must be eligible to be put on company car insurance.
- A calm and collected demeanor.
- An attitude that exemplifies core tenets of Sheild Catering.
- Ability to uphold Food Safety, Company Policy, and Liability standards at all times.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Sheild Menu
- Ability to stand for up to 10 hours at a time
- Ability to lift 50lbs
- Ability to work during the heat of Summer and the cold of Winter as well as in other weather conditions.
