Position: Assistant United States Attorney

Overview

The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Oregon is seeking dedicated attorneys to serve as Assistant U.S. Attorneys in the Civil Division. These positions are located in our branch office in Eugene, in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. We seek motivated individuals who enjoy working on a variety of challenging litigation matters while supported by colleagues of the highest caliber.

This post is continuous with initial review of applications beginning March 11.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Civil Division.
  • Work on a variety of challenging litigation matters while being supported by colleagues of the highest caliber.
  • Handle litigation from initial case filing through discovery and dispositive motions.
Required Qualifications
  • J.D. Degree, active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and at least 1 year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.
  • United States citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to manage numerous ongoing litigation matters, including juggling court appearances, depositions, and discovery deadlines, in a collegial, supportive manner.
  • Experience appearing in court, arbitrations, and/or depositions. Trial experience is preferred.
  • Superior research and writing abilities with the ability to prepare high-quality, persuasive pleadings. Writing is a major aspect of every civil AUSA's portfolio.
  • Experience handling litigation from initial case filing through discovery and dispositive motions.
  • Impeccable judgment with the ability to work independently, and the judgment to seek supervisory input when needed for difficult or sensitive issues.
  • Value teamwork and collegiality, including readiness to support colleagues during litigation emergencies.
  • Commitment to professionalism, legal ethics, and kindness toward opposing counsel, agency counsel, investigators, colleagues, judges, and courthouse staff.
