Senior Fleet Services Purchasing Specialist

Keep Lane County's fleet—and the essential services it supports—moving. As the Senior Fleet Services Purchasing Specialist, you will oversee the parts, supplies, tools and equipment that keep Lane County vehicles and public works equipment safe, reliable and ready for service. You will coordinate purchasing, receiving, inventory, storage and distribution while managing relationships with contracted and non-contracted vendors.

This senior-level position combines technical purchasing expertise, modern storeroom and inventory management, data analysis and day-to-day leadership. You will monitor financial and inventory activity, maintain specialized purchasing and maintenance records, manage stocking levels and obsolescence, resolve vendor or supply issues, and recommend improvements that support efficient fleet operations and responsible use of public funds.

You will also develop recurring and specialized reports, assist with administration of the County's fuel program, and apply purchasing policies, contractual requirements, bidding procedures, and applicable laws and regulations. The position provides ongoing lead direction to purchasing staff and supports General Services management and the Fleet Shop Supervisor with administrative and technical priorities.

The successful candidate will be able to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills, sound judgment, attention to detail, and a commitment to courteous customer service are essential. You must also be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County employees, department partners, vendors and contractors.

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • Knowledge of modern storeroom, inventory and purchasing practices
  • Experience with light-duty vehicles and familiarity with heavy-duty, construction, agricultural or Class 5–8 equipment
  • Intermediate experience using automotive parts management software or a fleet management information system
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams
  • Experience interpreting purchasing agreements, policies, procedures and regulatory requirements
  • The ability to analyze operational data, identify trends and prepare clear reports and recommendations

You understand that the right part, delivered at the right time and purchased responsibly, can determine whether critical County equipment remains in service.
