Position Summary

The Facilities Services Manager provides overall management and oversight of the Knight Law Center, directing staff and resources to ensure effective, safe, and efficient operation of the facility. Exceptional customer service is a core expectation of this role. The Manager ensures the facilities support the pedagogical, research, and administrative needs of the law school while operating within budgetary means and applicable university policies.

This position is responsible for day-to-day facilities operations, including building safety and security, and ensuring that established procedures and protocols are followed. This is a hands-on position requiring strong project management skills, technical facility expertise, clear and effective communication, and the ability to remain highly organized while managing multiple priorities.

Responsibilities
  • Project management and administrative functions such as submitting, tracking, and monitoring work orders and purchases; scheduling aspects of maintenance and repair activities; and coordinating internal and external requests for facilities.
  • Prioritize tasks independently and communicate regularly with a wide range of stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, and the general public from culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Supervise and direct the work of student employees.
  • Lead and coordinate logistics for facility-related events, including reviewing requests, consulting with event planners to understand all logistical requirements (e.g., building access, audio-visual requirements, signage, setup/takedown, policy compliance), and managing event execution from planning through completion.
  • Manage expectations and compliance while delivering a high standard of exceptional service. Events may include academic events, student career programming, conferences, dignitary visits, recruiting activities, and other internal or external events.
  • Coordinate aspects of manual, unskilled, semiskilled, and custodial workers engaged in maintenance and repair of the Knight Law Center; perform limited skilled labor (e.g., installing shelves, artwork handling/installations, furniture repair, patching walls, painting); manage office moves and furniture inventory.
  • Report to the Associate Dean for Finance and Operations. Work schedules may include early mornings, evenings, and weekends based on operational needs and events.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree OR an equivalent combination of education and professional work experience in a facilities-related position.
  • Two years of progressive facility management experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of experience for every year of education.
  • One year of project supervisory experience OR two years of leadership experience directing the work of others.
