Position Summary
The Metal Fabricator Assistant will work closely with the Welder Fabricator to complete tasks in the metal fab shop. He/she will assist in welding operations as well as operate a variety of hand tools and saws, learning basic operations and operating metal forming, bending and cutting equipment. Swing Shift work hours are 3:00PM - 11:30 PM.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Operate power hand tools.
- Use machinery to bend, form, and cut metal parts.
- Read and interpret shop drawings, understanding key dimensions, angles, tolerances, and finish requirements.
- Work closely with the Welder Fabricator to achieve production goals.
- Perform work safely without accident or injury while maintaining a safe work area clear of hazards.
- Perform other related duties or special projects as assigned.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, follow directions, and interpret drawings, details, and written instructions.
- Ability to safely operate metal cutting equipment (iron worker, saws, grinder, sander, oxy‑fuel torch, etc.).
- Ability to learn how to safely create weldments that are structurally and aesthetically sound.
- Proficient using measurement tools (tape measure, caliper, square, etc.).
- Detail oriented.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Language ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence including redlines and other technical communication. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees to convey concerns or suggestions.
Math ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, percentages, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning ability:
Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed but uncomplicated written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical demands:
The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and reach with hands and arms. Frequently required to talk or hear. Occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
