Northwest Youth Corps - Recreation Assistant

The Mt. Hood National, East Zone recreation program is recruiting for two Ameri Corps Recreation Assistant members for a 1040-Hour term (26 weeks), beginning April/May 2026 through October/November 2027. Members will maintain a variety of busy campgrounds, Trailheads, fire lookout rentals, and trails in the Mt. Hood National Forest. The incumbents typically work four ten-hour days per week with some routine weekend work required.

• Operate and maintain campgrounds, Trailheads, and fire lookout rentals (75%).
• Conduct trail maintenance using saws and hand tools (25%).
• Work alongside Forest Service employees and independently as part of the recreation program.
• Work in various weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, or snowy).
• Utilize power tools (e.g., chainsaws, if training is completed) and hand tools for small carpentry and maintenance projects throughout the East Zone of the Mt. Hood National Forest.
• Participate in training opportunities provided by the Forest Service, including chainsaw operations, crosscut saw, ATV/UTV, cross-country skiing, and wildland firefighter coursework.
