URBAN AND COMMUNITY FORESTRY (UCF) CREW MEMBER – Fall 2026

The service term of 480 total hours runs from September 21 through December 18, 2026. This program operates Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am‑4:30 pm (some variation expected, occasional Tuesday‑Friday).

Program

Description:

Help create robust urban forests that reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions to improve public health and well‑being. Work will focus on tree planting, maintenance, wildfire fuels mitigation, invasive plant management, and tree surveying in underserved urban areas of the Treasure Valley. Prior experience is not necessary; maturity, teamwork, and openness to new challenges are vital.

• 19‑26 years old (age at enrollment)
• US citizenship or permanent residency
• High School Diploma, GED*
• * If you do not currently hold a High School Diploma or GED, NYC may be able to waive this requirement and provide support under the condition that the GED exam is taken within 60 days of completing the session
• Pass a background check
• Current First Aid/CPR certification, or must obtain before participation (reimbursement up to $35 may be available upon completion)
• Ability to arrive on time at the pre‑designated meeting point during all training and service

• Members receive a stipend of $7,680 (before taxes) dispersed in pro‑rated monthly increments, plus an Ameri Corps Education Award of $1,956.35 upon successful completion of the service term.
• Opportunity to gain industry‑recognized credentials and skills that can be added to your CV/Resume.
• Potential training topics include:
  Brush Cutter Operation and Maintenance, Wood Chipper Operation, Driver/Trailer Use (select members), Tool Use and Maintenance, Native and Invasive Species Identification, Forestry Education (tree identification, proper tree planting and maintenance techniques, common health issues in trees, surveying techniques), and OSHA Training.

• Good physical condition; capable of heavy lifting, constant bending, digging, and long hikes to and from the worksite. Expected to work 8 hours per day in a strenuous, labor‑intensive environment.
• Work environment may involve varying temperature, noise level, and indoor/outdoor conditions; applicants should be able to perform under such circumstances.
