Department SummaryThe Department of Earth Sciences is an instructional department within the College of Arts and Sciences that supports significant research activities in a wide range of fields in Earth and Environmental Science. The department includes approximately 30 faculty (including TTF and NTTF), 60+ graduate students, and 100+ undergraduate majors.
- Geophysics: tectonics, seismology, remote sensing, fault mechanics, and earthquake hazards
- Volcanology: geochemistry, physical volcano logy, igneous petrology, and volcanic systems modeling
- Climate science: glaciology, paleo climate and glacial modeling, oceanography, and ice physics
- Paleontology: vertebrate paleontology, paleo ecology, paleobiogeography, and phylogenetics
- Surface processes: geochemical modeling, hydrology, soil and aqueous geochemistry, landslides, sedimentology and stratigraphy, geomorphology, and fluid mechanics
- Planetary Geology: space physics, astrobiology, and planetary interiors
The Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Oregon is inviting applications for its open pool. Positions are limited‑duration post‑doc or research appointments with durations not to exceed one year, with a possibility of renewal up to a total of three years, depending on program needs, funding, and performance.
Examples of research positions potentially available include research assistants or associates, postdoctoral scholars, and field research assistants.
Research assistants conduct research under the direction of a principal investigator.
Postdoctoral scholars conduct research under the direction of a faculty member for the purpose of acquiring research training.
Research associates conduct research with only general guidance.
Minimum Requirements- Bachelor’s degree in Earth Sciences, Geology, or related area.
- Master’s degree in Earth Sciences, Geology, or related area.
- Ph.D. in Earth Sciences, Geology, or related area.
