Cramer Fish Sciences (CFS) is seeking a Senior Biologist to join our Portland Oregon team. This role will lead and manage scientific studies on salmonid ecology, fish habitat, and habitat restoration in the Eugene, Oregon area.

Essential Responsibilities- Lead and manage research projects focused on salmonid ecology, aquatic habitat, and watershed assessments.
- Coordinate field data collection and train and supervise field crews for multiple projects.
- Manage and analyze field and remote sensing data using GIS, R and other statistical packages.
- Work closely with interdisciplinary positions to develop project reports including technical, writing, graphics, data summaries, and interpretations.
- Manage projects including monitoring the scope of work, budget, and timelines as well as maintaining client relationships, attend client meetings, and distribute periodic project updates.
- Lead the development of project proposals, plans, objectives, tasks, and budgets for small to medium projects, supporting proposal development on larger projects.
- Attend and present at scientific meetings and assist in or lead the writing of scientific manuscripts for publication.
- Supervise and mentor Biologists and Technicians as needed by sharing expertise and guidance.
- Education & Experience:
- B.S. in fisheries, biology, or a related field + 7 years of successful and sustained performance focused on salmonids and PNW aquatic organisms
- M.S. in a related discipline + 5 years of experience
- Ph.D. in a related discipline + 3 years of experience
Strong understanding of salmonid life history, habitat assessment methodologies, and aquatic ecosystem dynamics
Data Analysis & ModelingProficiency in R, GIS, and other statistical tools for managing and interpreting ecological datasets
Project Management SkillsProven ability to design, lead, and complete research projects, manage field teams, and coordinate deliverables within budget and time constraints
Technical Writing & PublicationsStrong track record of authoring technical reports, peer-reviewed publications, and research proposals
Fieldwork ExperienceHands-on experience with aquatic habitat surveys, fish sampling techniques, and environmental monitoring
Leadership & MentorshipAbility to supervise, mentor, and develop junior scientists and field staff
Valid Driver's LicenseValid Driver's License
Working Conditions/Physical Demands- Comfortable working in aquatic environments, including from boats, wading, and swimming in rivers and lakes
- Ability to work safely in variable weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, fog, smoke)
- Ability to lift 30 pounds and perform physically demanding fieldwork
- Willingness to travel to remote locations for up to 5 days at a time
- Ability to work in an office setting for extended periods when conducting data analysis and report writing
$80,000 - $100,000 per year, depending upon experience. 401(k) has a 3% match and full vesting after one year. The annual cash bonus has a 3% target. The benefit package includes medical, dental, vision, basic life, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, employee assistance programs, paid time off, paid company holidays, and other various voluntary benefits.
ESOPCFS is a 100% employee-owned company. Our employee stock option plan (ESOP) is a qualified defined contribution plan. Our target ESOP contribution is 5%. Eligibility is after one year of service with an entry date of Jan 1 or July 1.
