About Our Client

Our client is a specialized electrical contractor serving the telecommunications industry with a focus on mission-critical power infrastructure. Operating throughout the Pacific Northwest, they support major telecom carriers with DC power installation, maintenance, and upgrades in Mobile Switching Centers and central office facilities. The company represents approximately 30% of their business, and they pride themselves on quality workmanship, safety excellence, and long-term client partnerships.

The company values accountability, professional development, and maintaining the highest standards in zero-failure environments.

Job Description

We're seeking a senior-level DC Power Technician to support mission-critical power infrastructure inside Mobile Switching Centers. This role exists because our client's growth is currently limited by staffing shortages—the right technician will directly enable revenue expansion while ensuring network reliability for thousands of customers.

In this position, you'll work on large-scale DC power plants handling up to 10,000 amps, performing live ("hot") power transitions in active telecom environments where downtime isn't an option. This is hands-on, high-stakes work requiring precision, strong field judgment, and the ability to operate independently or lead installation crews. You'll collaborate closely with representatives, project managers, and general contractors in high-visibility, client-facing facilities where professionalism is paramount.

The ideal candidate is passionate about complex electrical systems, thrives in zero-failure environments, and takes pride in maintaining the invisible infrastructure that keeps cellular networks running 24/7.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, and commission large DC power plants (up to 10,000 amps) in active MSC facilities
  • Perform live/hot power transitions on energized equipment without service interruption
  • Read and interpret one-line diagrams, DC power prints, and battery/distribution layouts
  • Install and configure battery plants, rectifiers, and distribution bays
  • Implement proper grounding and bonding systems per specifications
  • Lead installation crews and mentor junior technicians on safety and quality standards
  • Coordinate with client representatives, project managers, and contractors
  • Troubleshoot complex power systems and provide real-time problem-solving during critical transitions
  • Maintain strict safety protocols and professional conduct in client-controlled environments
  • Track time accurately via mobile portal and ensure proper project documentation
Required Experience/Skills
  • Proven experience working inside Mobile Switching Centers (MSCs) - this is non-negotiable
  • Extensive hands-on experience with large DC power plants (up to 10,000 amps)
  • Demonstrated experience performing hot/live power transitions on energized equipment
  • Minimum 5–7 years of DC power installation and maintenance experience
  • Strong understanding of DC power systems, battery plants, distribution bays, and grounding/bonding
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings (one-lines, DC power prints, battery layouts)
  • OSHA 10 certification (required)
  • Capability to serve as lead installer or senior field supervisor
  • Strong field judgment and ability to operate independently in zero-failure environments
  • Excellent communication and professionalism when interfacing with clients and stakeholders
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record (no DUI in past 3 years)
  • Ability to pass 7-year background check with no felonies
Nice-to-Haves
  • OSHA 30 certification (company will pay for training during slow periods if not already certified)
  • Experience mentoring or training junior technicians
  • Background working with other major telecom carriers or in central office environments
  • Familiarity with project management tools and digital timekeeping systems
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical/trade school certification in electrical systems preferred.
Pay & Benefits Summary
  • Pay Range: $45–$55/hour (depending on experience and leadership scope)
  • Travel Benefits for Traveling Technicians:
  • Company-booked hotels (Holiday Inn, Hilton, or similar - no room sharing)
  • Flights home every 4 weeks for long weekend (Thursday–Monday)
  • Shared company vehicles provided at job sites
  • Industry-standard tools provided (technicians supply basic hand tools)
  • Company-provided high-visibility safety apparel
