Part‑time, As Needed, Instructional Specialist – Electrical Apprenticeship
Position Purpose
This position will function as the Lab Coordinator for the Electrical Apprenticeship Lab, responsible for organizing the layout, setting up and installing equipment, troubleshooting technical issues, and designing a realistic lab environment that supports student learning and success.
- Coordinate and implement the setup and design of the electrical apprenticeship lab and equipment to provide a safe and up‑to‑date learning environment.
- Obtain, prepare, and maintain materials, equipment, and supplies for student labs and classes and keep the lab clean and organized.
- Train students in equipment use and proper procedures.
- Provide assistance with assignments and supervise lab students.
- Work closely with faculty and the apprenticeship committee (JATC) to determine program needs.
- Show enthusiasm for the electrical trade.
- Work safely and within guidelines established by OSHA, the college, and the division.
- Problem‑solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Two (2) years of experience in the electrical trade.
- Two years of post‑secondary education or training with coursework in the area of assignment, OR a journeyman license in one of the following classifications: general journeyman electrician, manufacturing plant electrician, or limited maintenance electrician.
- Must work and reside in the state of Oregon at the time work is performed.
- Successful applicants are required to complete a criminal background check. Infractions are evaluated on a case‑by‑case basis.
- Must be able to lift and transport up to 50 pounds and work on a concrete floor for five or more hours per day.
- Associate’s Degree within the Construction Industry.
- Licensed Journeyman.
- Demonstrable, real‑world experience in electrical theory, national electrical code, motors and motor controls, and programmable logic controllers.
- Construction or industrial foreman/supervision in an industrial setting.
- Teaching or construction/industrial‑related experience in addition to experience in the electrical trade.
- Experience with apprenticeship training programs and standards.
