The Wastewater Maintenance Mechanic performs journey-level equipment maintenance with minimal instruction and supervision; responsible for a variety of mechanical duties in a large complex activated sludge wastewater treatment plant and related off-site facilities. This position will require areas of specialization such as welding and fabrication, pump repair, industrial engine maintenance, or other specialized skills listed below.

Wastewater Maintenance Mechanic 1: $31.31 - $39.03 / Hour; $65,124.80 - $81,182.40 / Annually Wastewater Maintenance Mechanic 2: $34.21 - $42.62 / Hour; $71,156.80 - $88,649.60 / Annually The City of Eugene determines starting pay within the range based on relevant education and experience as provided by the applicant in their application materials. This process is consistent with the Oregon Equal Pay Act (OEPA).

Work Schedule:
Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m.

Examples of duties performed - duties may include but are not limited to the following:
- Installs, troubleshoots, and maintains pumps, centrifugal blowers, methane fired engines, generators, boilers and other specialized equipment.
- Direct handling of domestic and industrial sewage and sludge processing equipment.
- Installs, maintains, and repairs pumps, compressors, blowers, sludge processing and handling equipment, and other equipment commonly found in the wastewater industry and used in treatment and handling of sewage.
- Performs routine preventive equipment maintenance inspections in an industrial setting, monitors, and records equipment condition indicators.
- Performs preventive maintenance lubrication on various types of large industrial equipment, valves, and gates.
- Performs routine and major maintenance; monitors and troubleshoots methane powered engine generator.
- Responsible for work orders and planning of assigned work or projects.
- Makes necessary equipment adjustments and repairs as established by maintenance procedures and individual experience.
- May serve on committees such as the Wastewater Division Safety Committee, Environmental Management System (EMS) Team, or other active roles dealing with the business of the Wastewater Division.
- Assists Maintenance Supervisor and/or Maintenance Lead in scheduling work to be performed, schedules necessary equipment shutdowns in collaboration, as necessary, with other work sections.
Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Lead, may develop and/or modify mechanical maintenance procedures.
Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Lead, may train others in proper maintenance techniques, equipment operation, and/or safety procedures related to maintenance and/or equipment. Will be assigned to work on special maintenance or other technical and complex projects. Performs major, minor, and routine preventive and corrective maintenance on treatment plant, biosolids facility, pump stations, and other equipment as directed by work orders generated by various work sections and maintenance management system.
Troubleshoots and isolates problems in malfunctioning equipment as assigned. Follows all manufacture's and City of Eugene safety procedures when isolating equipment, including proper equipment tagging and lock-out requirements. Will be required to perform limited fabrication and machine work as assigned. Will be assigned to work in anaerobic digesters, wet wells, manholes, or other confined spaces containing sewage or residue using appropriate personal protective or other safety equipment.
