Maintenance Worker
Public Works Surface Maintenance Team is looking to hire a Maintenance Worker 1, 2. Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment. The Maintenance Worker 1, 2 performs a variety of maintenance work and equipment operation in assigned areas in the maintenance of City streets, paths, sidewalks, sewers, drainage systems and related structures; operates medium and some heavy construction equipment; works independently or in a team situation.
Uses trucks and snowplows to sand and de-ice/anti-ice to clear streets during hazardous winter conditions; picks up and transports leaves, gravel and excavates, shovels, levels, and backfills. Assists in excavation, repair, and installation work to maintain asphalt and concrete streets, sidewalks, alleys, such as setting concrete forms/finishing concrete or asphalt, and assisting with pothole and crack sealing operations.

Maintenance Worker 1, Maintenance Worker 2 Salary: $25.13 - $31.31 hourly / $52,270.40 - $65,124.80 Annually, $26.28 - $32.69 hourly / $54,662.40 - $67,995.20 Annually, The City of Eugene determines starting pay within the range based on relevant education and experience as provided by the applicant in their application materials. This process is consistent with the Oregon Equal Pay Act (OEPA).

Examples of Duties PerformedExamples of Duties Performed – Duties may include but are not limited to the following
- Performs a variety of entry level, and frequent heavy manual, maintenance activities in the assigned areas operates variety of equipment as required in the performance of assigned duties.
- Performs manual maintenance activities such as hauling and spreading gravel to a uniform depth, shoveling and raking asphalt and concrete, jack hammering concrete and asphalt, clearing vegetation out of the right-of-way, crack sealing, digging in and around related infrastructure, picking up dead animals, and assisting with cleaning up debris from the right-of-way.
- Performs general maintenance of construction equipment, hand and power tools; identifies needed repairs and preventive maintenance of vehicles and large equipment.
- May enter manholes or other confined spaces. May work in and around raw sewage.
- Maintains daily work records as required.
- Performs minor carpentry, painting, concrete work, or other related tasks.
- May train coworkers and seasonal employees in equipment use, care, and safety procedures.
- Performs work outside in varying and extreme weather conditions while exposed to a variety of hazards; regularly lifts objects and equipment.
- Actively supports and respects diversity in the workplace.
- Performs related and other duties as assigned.

Maintenance Worker 1, Maintenance Worker 2
Maintenance Worker 1 positions are required to complete a training program. Employees will be given a variety of tasks to complete as outlined in the training program for the Surface Maintenance Work Section. After all basic proficiency levels in each skill area have been successfully completed, an employee's position will be eligible to flex to the semiskilled/skilled Maintenance Worker 2 level.
Maintenance Worker 2 salary range is $26.28 - $32.69 / hourly; $54,662.40 - $67,995.20 / annually.
