The Oregon Department of Justice’s Division of Child Support (DCS) is seeking to hire a Child Support Case Manager (Entry) for our Eugene office. Core skills to be successful as a case manager include attention to detail, consistency, and organization. The Oregon Child Support Program administers one of the top four anti‑poverty programs in the nation. We support parents to support children and are committed to inclusive and performance‑oriented workplaces.
- Review cases’ documents and records to determine if a child support order is needed.
- Contact agency customers and other service providers to gather information to assist in establishing paternity and to establish and enforce support orders.
- Establish, modify, enforce, and provide accounting records for child support orders by deciding needed action.
- Apply federal and state laws, rules, and agency policies and procedures.
- Verify payments are properly disbursed.
- Verify accuracy of any state agency claims against child support.
- Request, review, and evaluate paternity declarations to initiate action; complete and file legal documents to establish paternity; process modification requests.
- Gather wage and health‑care information, research and apply child support guidelines to calculate support obligation.
- Three (3) years of experience working with the public in person or by phone giving information about services and programs and solving customer problems/complaints; experience must include the use of personal computers, web‑based applications, and typical software such as Microsoft Office.
- A Bachelor’s Degree may substitute for the above experience.
- Finalists must pass a comprehensive employment reference check and fingerprint‑based criminal background check; a driver history check will be included for positions requiring state vehicle driving privileges.
- Adaptability when facing change in job processes and requirements.
- Skill in sorting through, and analyzing, mass amounts of information.
- Professional experience communicating policies, rules, or laws to the public.
- Computer proficient with a clear ability to learn new systems and methods.
- Experience using a variety of computer programs to view, enter, edit, and extract information.
- Ability to independently complete assignments on time.
- Ability to maintain professional composure, tact, and friendliness while working with the public who may be irate, hostile, and/or emotionally distraught.
- Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions.
- Exposure to a variety of operational areas within the Oregon Child Support Program.
