The Forklift Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating forklifts in a fast-paced, outdoor scrap- environment. This role supports non-ferrous operations by assisting customers, loading and unloading materials, staging inventory, and responding quickly to radio requests from team members. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-focused, adaptable, and comfortable multitasking in changing conditions.
Responsibilities- Operate forklifts (primarily 8,000-lb capacity) safely on uneven outdoor terrain.
- Load and unload 53-foot van trailers accurately and securely.
- Assist customers by delivering boxes and helping unload non-ferrous materials.
- Respond promptly to radio communications and requests from yard staff.
- Support operations including sorting copper, stacking batteries, and staging materials.
- Perform general yard duties including sweeping, cleaning, and housekeeping.
- Maintain awareness of changing yard conditions and adjust priorities accordingly.
- Follow all safety procedures, company policies, and supervisor instructions.
- Provide polite, professional customer service at all times.
- Ability to safely operate a forklift in an outdoor, uneven-ground environment.
- Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently under pressure.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Willingness to perform a wide variety of tasks beyond forklift operation.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and climbing on and off equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Regular exposure to noise, dust, and heavy equipment.
