Job Description

Position Details:

  • Component pay structure:
    Average pay $90,000 - $100,000
  • Regional Routes (1-3 day layover)
  • Schedule:

    4-5 days per week; start between 11PM - 3AM (5 weeks paid training / Portland)
  • Sign On Bonus: $10,000 (terms apply) - Any person who has worked for a Performance Food Group (PFG) owned company within the last 24 months is not eligible to receive this incentive.

Position Purpose

Food and food service delivery drivers fulfill a critical role in the country's food supply chain. Our delivery drivers ensure customers' products arrive on time and in good condition, and they are the face of our company — building lasting relationships with customers.

The CDL-A Driver is responsible for driving a tractor trailer or straight truck on intrastate and interstate local, over-the-road routes, shuttle, overnight, and drive-and-drop routes to deliver and unload food and related products to customers in a safe and timely manner in accordance with Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). Communicates professionally with customers, vendors, and co-workers. Functions as a team member and performs duties to best serve the company.

Job

Functions — Major Functional Responsibilities
  • Perform all required safety checks (pre/post trip) including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations; report safety issues and/or repairs required.
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines; immediately report safety hazards.
  • Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight; perform count checks; verify customer invoices; complete required paperwork; move tractor to loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed.
  • Ensure tractor, trailer, and freight are secured at all times; unload damaged goods and returns and complete necessary paperwork; remove trash from trailers as required.
  • Comply with daily record-keeping and hours of service requirements per DOT, state, and company policies.
  • Uphold safety standards and proper handling of freight throughout the delivery process.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

Required

Education:

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience required

Work Experience:

  • 6 months to 1 year commercial driving experience
  • Food service distribution industry experience
  • Onboard computer and electronic log system experience (e.g., People Net)
  • Hand-held point of delivery scanning system experience (e.g., POD)
  • Customer service-related work experience
  • Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements (where applicable)
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Meets PFG Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) requirements for past 3 years
  • Pass pre-employment drug test
  • Meets PFG FMCSA Clearinghouse Requirements
  • Pass road test
  • Able to secure new DOT Medical Card
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize equipment to move and stack product cases/freight (generally 60-90 pounds)
  • Must be able to work the assigned schedule
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English;
    English language proficiency required
Preferred qualifications
  • 1+ year touch freight driving experience
  • Onboard computer and electronic log system experience (e.g., People Net)
  • Hand-held point of delivery scanning system experience (e.g., POD)
  • Customer service-related work experience
