Controller, Accounting, Financial Reporting

Pennington Concrete & Utilities is seeking an experienced,
hands-on Controller to lead its accounting function. This is a hands-on leadership role overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, month-end close, financial reporting, payroll and tax compliance, job costing, and the development of accounting staff.
This position is required to work onsite in Euless, Texas.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in construction accounting and understands the unique financial processes of a construction environment, including WIP reporting, job costing, retention, and over/under billings.
Previous construction industry experience is required, and experience with Sage 100 Contractor is preferred.

• Lead and oversee daily accounting operations and accounting staff
• Manage the month-end close process and review financial statements, reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules
• Prepare and review WIP schedules, job costing, cost allocations, and cost reclasses
• Prepare monthly financial reporting and dashboards for leadership
• Oversee AP, AR, payroll, intercompany activity, bank reconciliations, and recurring entries
• Review AR aging and retention balances and monitor outstanding reconciliation items
• Oversee sales tax, payroll tax, workers' compensation, and other compliance reporting
• Review quarterly and annual payroll filings, W-2s, 1099s, and other required filings
• Maintain and review debt schedules, leases, GL accounts, vendors, and related accounting records
• Coordinate with the CPA on quarterly reviews and overbilling/under billing reporting
• Partner with operations and management to resolve accounting issues and provide reliable financial information
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls
• Support, and develop accounting team members
• Support Sage accounting processes, including GL accounts, vendors, cost codes, and new division setup

• Construction industry accounting experience required
• Previous experience as a Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar accounting leadership role
• Strong knowledge of construction accounting, including WIP reporting, job costing, retention, and over/under billings
• Strong understanding of month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, payroll, AP/AR, and compliance
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to create and maintain spreadsheets, analyze data, and use formulas and functions effectively
• Sage 100 Contractor experience preferred
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies
• Proven ability to lead and develop accounting staff
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively with both operations and leadership
• Ability to work onsite in Euless, TX required
