Job Summary
Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine metal fabrication related duties in support of the parts production process. This position is responsible for using control mechanisms or direct physical activity to transport structural steel sections inside the production area utilizing a pendant controlled overhead crane.
Educational RequirementsHigh School Diploma or GED, plus one (1) to three (3) years fabrication machine operator experience or related field required. Experience with plasma machine, blocking machine, angle drill, multi‑head torch, rack punch, radial arm drill, and bed drill is a plus.
Qualifications- Thorough understanding of shop practices and procedures.
- Basic understanding of producing and inspecting precision components.
- Ability to read and interpret average to complex blueprints, drawings, diagrams, tolerance information, route sheets, factory work orders, safety guidelines, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Proficiency with arithmetic in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and concepts such as percentages, ratios, and proportions.
- Competence in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, height gauges, calipers, dial indicators, protractors, and tape measures to ensure tight tolerances.
- Knowledge of basic math and different dies.
- Experience operating overhead and jib cranes.
- Ability to read tape measure and degree finder.
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures.
- Inspect own parts and others’ parts using tools such as tape measures, scales, calipers and possibly various computerized measuring devices.
- Read and complete production orders, QA and manufacturing documentation as required.
- Perform secondary operations such as cleaning and debarring of manufactured parts.
- Operate overhead hoists and forklifts to move material and necessary equipment for machine operations; arrange parts as needed for production and deliver raw stock, partially completed work, and completed jobs to appropriate storage or production areas.
- Record machinery operation variances from normal settings and results; complete basic preventive maintenance on machinery and equipment; perform visual safety checks for machine wear, tooling damage, and correct positioning of safety guards.
- Clean workspace as required and assist other machine operators as needed.
- Follow all safety regulations, keep the work area clean and orderly, and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required for the assigned work area(s).
- Follow corporate safety guidelines and may participate in audits, incident investigations, etc. as needed.
- Inform supervisor immediately of any malfunction.
- Visually inspect and verify parts are within tolerance before bending.
- Maintain good attendance and punctuality.
- Follow shop foreman’s instructions.
- Work overtime when requested.
- Full‑time shop exposure.
- Extreme temperatures (sometimes due to season).
- No travel requirements.
- Work standing up for 8‑10 hours per day and up to 6 days a week.
- Good vision, hearing, smell, and balance.
- Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand, bend, stoop, squat or kneel regularly as well as climb stairs and ladders.
- Will train on days and resume a second shift schedule once training is completed.
Pay: $21.50 – $23.50 per hour. Expected hours: 40 – 55 per week.
