Job Description & How to Apply Below
Reporting to the General Manager of our Dallas-based combustion turbine component repair business unit, the Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring the quality, integrity, and documentation of repaired industrial gas turbine combustion and hot gas path components. This role adds dedicated engineering competency and capacity to the quality function. The successful candidate will bring hands-on inspection experience with industrial gas turbine parts and the aptitude to grow into a technical authority on component evaluation, disposition, and final acceptance.
This is a growth role for a developing professional who wants to deepen their expertise in turbine component repair within a respected, specialized shop.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform and document incoming and outgoing inspection of combustion and hot gas path components, verifying dimensional, visual, and non-destructive inspection results against applicable specifications.
- Evaluate component condition and wear, and support the disposition of inspection findings in collaboration with senior technical staff, developing the judgment to lead dispositions over time.
- Prepare, review, and maintain inspection reports and quality records, ensuring accuracy and completeness before they are released to the customer.
- Support repair-acceptance decisions and final sign-off, progressively taking ownership of these activities.
- Maintain and improve quality processes, inspection procedures, and documentation standards consistent with customer and industry requirements.
- Partner with welding, machining, coating, and engineering personnel to resolve quality issues, identify root causes, and drive corrective and preventive actions.
- Help build and mature the shop's quality management system as repair volume grows, including process controls, traceability, and certification readiness.
- Collaborate with the quality inspector to allocate inspection workload effectively, increasing the function's overall capacity and reliability.
- Support continuous improvement and on-the-job knowledge transfer from senior technical staff, capturing critical inspection and disposition expertise within the team.
Experience:
- Hands-on quality inspection experience with industrial gas turbine parts, ideally combustion and/or hot gas path components.
- Approximately 5 years of relevant experience; candidates earlier in their careers with strong, directly relevant turbine‑component exposure will be considered.
- Working knowledge of component wear and failure modes (e.g., cracking, oxidation, corrosion, coating loss) and how they inform inspection and disposition.
- Familiarity with inspection methods and tools, including dimensional inspection and common non-destructive examination techniques (e.g., FPI, visual, dimensional).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and repair procedures.
- Strong documentation discipline and attention to detail, with the ability to produce accurate, customer‑ready inspection reports.
- A growth mindset and the aptitude to develop into a technical authority on component evaluation and disposition.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in engineering, materials, a technical discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- Direct experience with GE and/or Westinghouse legacy frame components (e.g., Frame 5/6/7) hot section hardware.
- Experience in an independent (non-OEM) component repair or aftermarket services environment.
- Exposure to weld and braze repair, thermal spray and other coatings, and heat treatment as they relate to component acceptance.
- NDT certification(s) (e.g., ASNT Level I/II) or the willingness to obtain them.
- Familiarity with quality management systems and continuous‑improvement methods.
